Only a short time ago we were freshmen looking ahead with apprehension and hesitation upon the four years ahead of us. As young scholars beginning a new year of high school we elected the following as of- ficers: President, David Varney; Vice-President, Helen Yattaw; Secretary, Gertrude Gailor; and Treasurer, Richard Abare. With our advisors Mrs. Merrill and Mr. Ford we sponsored a dance Make believe Ballroom with Johnny Kuznia and his orchestra. We were proud of the success of our first dance. In March four freshmen were elected into the Junior National Honor Society. They were David Varney, Rise Hogaasen, Donna Arnold and Barbara Drew. We made the leap into our sophomore year striving toward our goal of success. We elected our officers for the on-coming year. They were Maurice Sherman as President, Bryan Clancy as Vice-President, Vicki Archer as Secretary and Judy Gaetz as our trust-worthy Treasurer. We welcomed Mr. Correale as our new advisor. To raise funds for our sophomore year we presented Autumn Fantasy, a dance which also proved to be very successful. Maurice Sherman, Edward Purinton, Louis Noel, Marie Peck, Marjorie Sullivan and Joyce Pendrak were the fortunate sophomores to be chosen for the Junior National Honor So- ciety. Our Junior year marked the last half of our high school career. The newly elected officers were: President, Donald Corsetti; Vice-President, Lorraine DuFrain; Secretary, Joyce Pendrak; Treasurer, Helen Yattaw. The first big thrill of the year came with the arrival of our rings. Next came the long anticipated Prom on May 22. The gymnasium became a place of dreams as we unfolded our theme Stairway to the Stars. Paul Jarvis and his Hi-Hats furnished the star-light music. At the magic hour of eleven, Donna Arnold and David Varney were crowned King and Queen by last years royalty Tina Zdobnikow and Tom Ryan. The class, along with six at- tendants, Gert Gailor, Jack Brown, Lorraine Du Frain, Verne Woolley, Joyce Pendrak and Maurice Sherman formed the court. Crownbearers were Linda De Luca, James Carey, Susan Peters, and Richard Blair. During the course of the year Donna Arnold, Barbara Drew and David Varney were elected into the Senior National Honor Society. Now as aged scholars we entered our final year at S.C.S. anticipating the events of the coming year and the glorious day of graduation. On November 7, our class chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Norman Merrill and Mrs. and Mr. Robert Correale made a trip to West Point which marked the beginning of our school's new Washington trip system. It was a day of rain, laughter, and frozen feet, but one day that won't be soon forgotten. How could we forget our class dance. Club 60 which was held on December 30? The music of Paul Jarvis and his Hi-Hats once again helped to make this a memorable occasion along with the glowing candles on each table. Our worthy officers who slaved to make our last year a success were Verne Woolley as President, Jack Brown as Vice-President, Vicki Archer as Secretary and Bryan Clancy as Treas- urer. At the impressive candlelight ceremony four new members were named to the Senior Na- tional Honor Society; Louis Noel, Maurice Sherman, Lois Mezera and Alice Bain. Our four years of high school have been happy and satisfying. As we look over our his- tory, we may recall many pleasant memories which we will carry with us as we leave Schuy- lerville Central. 33 UNDERCLASSMEN National Park Service Photo SCHUYLER HOUSE 35 Subjects of many changes in their time. TEAMS WIN TWO TROPHIES IN SPRING ’59 Schuylerville experienced a highly successful spring, being champions in track, co-champions in baseball and having a better than usual tennis season. Coach LaRocque's baseball team came through with a fine display of talent in ending the season with a fine 8-1 record, to gain a co-championship with the fine Cambridge Indians. The team, playing good ball all season and losing only three lettermen in Dave Heighton, Bob Sullivan and Donald Ernst, is therefore expected to be right up there in 1960, led by the ten remaining lettermen. The tennis team, under the coaching of Mr. Robert Correale, recuperated from losing seasons and finished their season with an even, but impressive, record of 5-5. The Black Horse Netsters played tough competition in the Northern Confer- ence League with Glens Falls and Hudson Falls. Coach Correale is looking for- ward to better things. The track team, under Coach Reed, just had too much depth for the competition. The team took first place in the Washington County Meet at Argyle in which seven schools competed. After such a good season we are all looking forward to an- other in 1960. For their participation in the three spring sports, the Horses won two trophies. One was for being co-champions in baseball and one was for being champions in track. 65 GIRLS’ SPORTS BASKETBALL HOCKEY Left to right, ROW 1: C. Obie, C. Brownell, L. Mezera, S. DeGrechie, C. In a rematch they were able to keep the Hartford pace and the game ended in a tie, 3-3. As a result of this commendable record the Schuylerville Hockey Team placed second in the county league. By winning all seven games played, Schuyler- ville won the championship in the playday held here in Schuylerville. Those partic- ipating were: Argyle, Greenwich, Cambridge, Salem, Hoosic Falls, Hoosic Valley, and Hartford. The girls are also very proud of their record in basketball. They placed third in the county league. All three defeats were at the basketball playday held in Cam- bridge.
