Saratoga 79-J-l Class of 1956: It is a privilege to be able to offer my congratulations to each member of the Class of 1956. Your graduation is an event which will long be remembered. On the tenth anniversary of the organization of the Schuy- lerville Central District, you become the first to receive your diplomas in your beautiful new school. I know it has made your senior year most enjoyable and profitable. It will continue to bring the best in education to the youth of your community for at least half a century. Your fine parents, a capable and understanding faculty, and a forward looking community have provided you with a sound basis for successful living. I know that with God's blessing your lives will be fruitful and a joy to ail who have worked to make you a success.

‘Pto te i. m Ocvi (1876-1925) It was 79 years ago that the Union Free School District 1 was created and the building erected on University Street at that time, was second to none. Con- struction work was under supervision of the late W. P. Ostrander, great-grand- father of John L. Ostrander, president of. the Board of Education. 5 i w « » i -- The building now used as the elementary school was opened for classes in September 1926. The site of this school, on a knoll at Spring and Broad streets, was occupied by the British troops during 1773- The bell which has called the children to school was moved from the old building and has been in use since 1S76. The new building con- sists of 14 regular class- rooms, a two-room home economics department, a 2l 2-room science depart- ment consisting of a high school science laboratory classroom, a junior high school science laboratory classroom and a shared darkroom; a two-room li- brary; a large study hall; a two-room commercial department; an industrial art shop; an agricultural shop; a two-room health unit; a guidance office; a cafeteria kitchen and din- ing room that will seat 160 comfortably; a main office and Board of Education- principal's room; a double gym with a seating capaci- ty of 800; an auditorium with a seating capacity of 754 and a four-room mu- sic suite.
