In testimony of our gratitude and appreciation we dedicate this issue to MR. That was our motto. When we first boarded our rocket of knowl- edge and learning, we knew we were destined to travel through an unknown orbit of time. We were ready and willing to accept the challenge. Now that we have reached our destination we look back on the past and wonder how it could have gone by so fast. Our journey began in the year 1953. Fifty-four new recruits entered the ship, took their seats, fastened their safety belts, and took off to that unknown planet Freshman.” Our pilot, Mr. Gritmon, and co-pilot, Miss Barker, guided us through the long days that lay ahead. After we reached the planet and had time to settle down, we decided that our journey wasn’t going to be as difficult as we thought. Our first big project was the plan- ning of a dance. We were on our own, for the first time, to decide what to do and how to do it. We pulled through with flying colors. We planned a square dance with all the country style trimmings, and called it the Hill Billy Bounce.” We were really proud of ourselves because our dance was a success. Our next big project was selling Christmas Cards. This was a little harder but we did our best. As our year grew to a close we started to pack up our gear and make ready for the move on to our next planet— Sophomore.” Summer passed away and in the fall of 1954 forty-six of us, all a little older and a little wiser, boarded our faithful rocket and took off for Sophomore.” This year our pilot was Mr. Archer and our co-pilot was Miss Boyer. Our tasks came easier now that we were a little more mature. Our first fall dance which we were eager to have was named the Sophomore Hoedown” and again we managed another successful affair. As the year moved on, we participated in sports and surged ahead to win the tennis and soccer pen- nants. Two of our girls, D. De Fabio and A. Peck, joined ranks with the cheerleading squad and proudly represented our class. Summer came once more and with eager expecta- tion we packed up once again to move on to one of our most exciting planets— Junior.” As ’55 rolled around, forty-three of us took off for what was to be one of our biggest years. Mr. Archer took over his command as pilot once again, and we gained a new co- pilot, Miss Ross. Our first job was to order our class rings. Our ring committee made a good choice in their selection. We were represented in cheerleading by two more namely, C. Peck and T. Casey. As the year rolled on, we began to plan for our Junior Prom. We named it Melody of Wishes.” We engaged Tom Rhodes' Orchestra. Our king, E. Mol- loy and queen, A. Peck, made a pleasing couple. Next on the agenda was the choosing of National Honor Society. We were proud to be represented by T. Butler, J. Germain, D. Wilson, E. Sullivan, E. King, J. Wood and A. Peck. But once more, and for the final time, summer came knocking on our door. We began to reali2e that we had better make the most of it, because it was the last one we would have together. Then, finally, on a bright September day in 1955, forty-one of us took off on the final link in our journey; and with the assistance of our faithful pilot, Mr. Archer, and our co- pilot, Miss Ross, we landed safely on Senior.” But as we stepped out of our ship we found ourselves in an entirely new atmosphere—a new building. We were very proud to think that we would be the first to graduate from the beautiful new building in which we were to spend our last year. Our first big task was the Senior Play. We presented All-American Family,” which was ably presented and proved a real success. Then we started planning the biggest thrill of our entire journey—our Senior Trip We spent six glorious days in New York and Washington; six days that we will remember for the rest of our lives. At last we have reached our destination. As graduation came nearer and nearer, we wondered where the past has gone. We realize some of what lies ahead in the world; and know that, with the knowledge we have gained from S.C.S., we will be able to meet challenges that may face us. We «ill say goodbye to the happy, carefree days that we spent together. Though eyes are misty, hearts are empty, we will carry forever many won- derful moments to remember. c L A S S O F First row, left to right: A. Lebaron. E. Rasnanen, K. Williams, L. Turcotte, P. The Senior Service Club consists of thirty pupils from the sophomore, the junior, and the senior classes, elected by the club members on the recommendation of the faculty members. The objectives of the club are to encourage students to form good habits of study and conduct, to promote worthwhile activities, to preserve order, and to develop the right kind of school spirit. These objectives are based on the four C’s” of the club—Cooperation, Control, Courtesy, and Cleanliness. The business part of the club is conducted by the president, Jean Germain and the latter part of the meeting is given over to the social leaders—Theresa Butler, Rachel Haas, John Conlee and Edgar King, who prepare a twenty minute recrea- tional program for the group. ANNE BRISTOL Secretary PATRICIA THIBODEAU Vice President...........................HELEN EUSTIS Treasurer JOHN CONLEE In 1949 at the Yorker convention they began to have chapter achieve- ment trophies. Since that date they have awarded three each year. Judg- ing has always been tough; chapter activities were so excellent. To make it a little easier, from the first they laid down the rule that no chapter, once having a trophy, should win again. This year they revised the rule: Any group winning a trophy once may, after the lapse of five years, be eligible for a Yorker bowl. These awards then go to five of our biggest chapters, five for years lead- er in unique Yorker activity, five that have given us state officers, en- tertained their regions or even state convention, brought honor to York- ers everywhere by winning national awards, brought huge delegations year after year, with sponsors so out- standing and cooperative they are to be admired. THERESA BUTLER The purpose of the I.R.C. is to stimulate interest in world affairs and to promote active participation in learning more about different areas of the world and their problems. There are over 50 members in our club who have undertaken a project to discuss cur- rent events of interest. The group has been divided up into eight discussion groups which meet weekly. Each member is urged to participate in these discussions and to analyze in- ternational situations which affect our country and our neighbors. We obtain new topics for later discussion from films, magazine articles, newspapers, radio and television pro- grams. This year we have had an assembly program featuring two exchange students from abroad who spoke to the student body on their countries and customs. We have had both inter-club and inter-scholastic debates. We attended the annual Interscholastic Forum this year. First row: C. Haynes, K. Van Wagner, B. Barrett, T. Boright. P. Wood, L. Turcotte, J. There’s the windup, the pitch, a called strike, and the 1955 baseball season is underway for the Schuylers. The baseball team, coached by Don LeRay, made a good showing in spite of the fact that a quick glance at the record would not indicate it. Lady Luck consistently avoided them. Yet all of sport is not in the winning of the game. Real sportsmanship is concerned with the way the game is played. There never has been a year in which the individual players gained more. We are proud of their work and know that they have shown us what real sportsmanship is. 1955 Under the direction of track coach Donald LeRay, Schuyler cindermen chalked up a score that showed good timing, proper coordination on the part of those who partici- pated. Eugene Duff showed fast pacing on the track when he clocked a one mile in 40 min- utes and 59 seconds. Joe Lenz, another track man, was a top scorer in the broad jump with an 18 and Eugene again added to the score as a close second in the jump with a 17. In the 100-yard dash James Perotta took it in 12 seconds, while Paul Carter paced it at 15 seconds. In addition Perotta ran in the 220-yard. Schools Argyle ... Salem ....
