Through your elemen- tary and secondary school training, you have cultivated many friends, who have helped to make life happier for you by v ords of advice, well wishes and true comnanionship. These friendships will long endure as you reminisce and relive your happy school experiences. In attaining this goal of successful graduation from high school, you have been aided by kind and loving parents and helpful and understanding teachers to whom I know you will always be grateful. As you leave the portals of the Schuylerville Central School, your path3 will part. Some will go on to institutions of higher learning; others less fortunate must go to work, but each of you will bear the fruits of your endeavors reflecting your parental training and the impression Schuylerville Central School has had on your life. Your parents, teachers and friends join me in the hope and prayer that you will take into the world the moral and soiritual values of your home and the high social standards of your school. The apparent disregard of moral and ethical standards by many has shocked every community in the nation. To rekindle in everyone an hone3t, trustworthy, religious and morally sound way of life that has long symbolized the real American, we must all vigorously defend and live these principles in our every-day life by our words, deeds and actions. May we, the 3oard of Education, teachers, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, office personnel and everyone associated with the Schuylerville Central School, wish you happiness and God’s blessing so that each of you will live an abundant and fruitful life. During our high school journey we have realized that serious times were facing us. With this realization in mind, we decided to make the most of our opportunities. We grasped the fact that opportunity knocks but once , and as a result, we have accomplished many things which are worthy of relating to you, our readers. As we turn to the year 1948-49, we can clearly see 57 freshmen with John Floyd and James Priestly as their presidents and their advisors, Miss Grennell and Miss Thomson. As a result of working together, we succeeded in having a successful food sale and Freshmen Frolic. The school year of 1949-50 whizzed by in a hurry too. With our advisors Miss Grennell and Mr. Archer and our president Axel Schmid, the class of '52 really started on its upward path. It was during this year that co- operation was beginning to grow among our 46 sophomore members. The Amateur Show, the first one held in Schuylerville Central School, was our most successful adventure along with our Sophomore Hop. Some of our classmates entered contests with good results. Susan Brooks won the second prize of $25.00 in the Saratoga Medical Association essay contest. Before we realized it, 1950 was dawning and the 46 juniors were again advised by Miss Grennell and Mr. Archer. The Junior Prom which had The Gardens of Tara as its theme, and three successful amateur shows took all the energy out of the juniors and we climaxed our success with a grand picnic at White's Beach. In addition to our class activities many of our juniors won added dis- tinction for themselves. In the 4-H field, Joan Everts re- ceived the Saratoga County Poultry Award. The prize a much coveted trip to New York City. Ernest Yandell, a winner at the tractor contest at Ballston Fair, received an opport- unity to compete with 80 contestants at Syracuse. We also had students interested in the oratorical field. Axel Schmid won first prize in the American Legion Oratorical Contest; Mary Kay Haas and Paul Serbu followed him by winning second and third prizes. Nadene Ellsworth, Joan Everts, Joan Germain, George Cromie, and Susan Brooks also took part in the elocution exercises. Other achievements were: Carl Cooney and James Priestly received Golden Gloves in boxing; Mary Kay Haas and Axel Schmid were elected to National Honor Society; and Paul Serbu represented S. C. S. at Boys State. Tandem , our much awaited senior year, became a reality. Miss Grennell and Mr. Archer, our advisors, and Richard Kryworuchenko, the senior president, led us through our final year of school. The senior play, A Date With Judy , directed by Miss Elizabeth Myers, proved a successful and hilarious comedy. Three amateur shows and two dances were the last activities to be sponsored by us as a class. And then, came the glorious, ex- citing, Washington Trip! This -- the climax of our High School career. Six, carefree and wonderful days were spent exploring the famous sights of our Capital and New York City. And now, our high school days are gone. We are prepared to face the world and to enter into the maze of paths which lie before us. Grad- uation was the end of one goal, but now we face a larger and more com- plex goal. In one sense, we are at the crossroads of our career. With all the knowledge we have gained from Schuylerville Central School, we will be able to choose that highway which will lead us to success and happiness. 21 We, the members of the SeniorClass of Schuy- lerville Central School of Schuylerville, New York, being of sound mind, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last Will and Testament. In- stituted on the twentieth day of June, the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and fifty-two. To the Board of Education who have been little seen, but keenly appreciated, we extend our sincere thanks. To the faculty members we leave our thanks for their understanding and patient ways. To the Junior Class we leave our Amateur Shows and hope they will be as successful as ours were. Dick Kryworuchenko wills his adventures with his car to Jim Simmons. CLASS OF 1952 22 JUNIOR PROM George Cromie and Adeline Garnsey were voted king and queen of the junior class on, May 24, 1951, at an attractive social event attended by 75 couples. A delightful program of music was furnished by Harry Vincent's orchestra of Albany. The main feature of the evening was the coronation of the king and queen at 11:15. At that moment, the large doors of the mansion opened and the crown bearers, Sonya Gavaletz and David Irish came forward. William Nevins and Ellen Mezera, last years king and queen, crowned the new king and queen. The queen's attendants were Margaret Myers, Susan Brooks, Jeanine Ladds, Emily McRae, Joan Pett and Claudia Hall. WALSH The Athletic Association consists of twelve re- presentatives, one boy and one girl from each class 7-12. Among its many duties are the candy and drink concessions at ball games, sale of bus tickets for away games, and advertising of games by means of posters hung in the halls and in store windows of local business men. The money which the Athletic Association took in this year from the concessions and sale of bus tickets was used to organize the annual athletic ban- quet for letter men of the school year. Waiting for a sale. Coach FRITZ Ass't Coach MISURELLI The 1951 team was composed of almost all new faces. Graduation took its toll as the entire 1950 team completed their senior year and went out into the world. The Six-Man football league was won by South Glens Falls as they finished the season without a loss. It should be said that, what the Schuylerville squad lacked in size and experience they made up for in spirit. Though they were always outweighed considerably they were in the game to the very end giving all they had. As the season progressed, the team kept constantly improving which would seem to indicate that they will be much more of a threat in the years to come. We hope they will win the county champ- ionship next year as our Varsity team did last year. South Glens Falls, Corinth and Ballston have been the three top teams in the Saratoga County League this season with Burnt Hills and Hoosick Falls close behind them. BASEBALL The Schuylerville Central School baseball team coached by Joe Scuirba made a good showing 1951. The pitching staff consisted of W. Nevins, G. Bean, M. Farrell and F. Tynan. The team had a record of two wins and five losses in Saratoga County league play. The league ended in a three way tie between Corinth, Stillwater and Greenwich. The team G. Ladds and M. Squires - Catchers, B. Nevins, G. Bean, F. Tynan, and M. Farrell-pitchers; F. Base - M. Lindahl; S. Base - E, Lenz, W. LaVoy; SS - L. Irish, H. Millett; TB - F. Tynan, B. Mosher; Out Fielder - G. Irish, M. Brill, P. Serbu, Mgr. - R. Cromie and I. Hanna. TRACK Schuylerville participated in the newly formed Tri-County Track League. This league consisted of Argyle, Salem, Cambridge, Greenwich and Schuylerville. Schuylerville won three dual meets defeating Argyle, Greenwich and Cam- bridge but lost to Salem, in a close meet. In the conference meet which was held at Saelm, Schuylerville lost out to Salem by one-half point to finish second. The Schuylerville track squad traveled to Johstown where they com- peted in the class D sectionals and finished in third place. TENNIS Schuylerville Central School en- tered a 1951 tennis team in the Saratoga County and Hudson Valley leagues, finishing at the bottom in both. South Glens Fall won both championships for another year, they have won the Sara- toga County League ever year since its reorgainization following the war. Schuylerville started the season with a squad of 12 but due to conflicts with baseball and the lack of sufficient transportation for the complete squad there were only five regulars, G. Hew- itt, B. Pett, C. Platner, C. Chapman and A. Fitzgerald the others were A. Eddy, K. Wood, M. Farrell, G. Biss, D. Brown, G. Ladds and G. Tucker. 38 H O C K E Y During 1951-52 the girls of Schuyler - ville Central have been very active in athletic events under the direction of Miss Moon. A program has been in use wherby all girls are assigned to teams which compete at noon hour or afterschool playing hockey, soccor, basketball, volleyball, bowling, and softball. The more interested and capable players comprise teams which compete in interschool meets. In inter scholastic hockey the represent- ative team was undefeated being tied but once. Several basketball games were played against area schools of which we won 8 out of 10. Last spring a major event was the Saratoga County League playday at Greenwich, June 2, 150 girls from 8 area schools participated. Honors were captured by V. Booth and D. Irish -- Highjump; M. Haas -- running broad jump; M. Myers -- standing broad jump; D. Irish -- 60 yd. dash. The local doubles tennis team outclassed all contestants winning the tournament. We won a total of 26 points for the day as compared to 9 for the nearest opponent. The purposes of the athletic pro- gram are: to include all girls inter- ested, provide opportunity for learning the sport and for getting acquainted with others and to promote better health for girls. 39 SEATED: L. There are 198 members. The Supreme Council Officers elected were: President, Lois Cromie (Fifth term); First Vice-President, Edwin Hanna; Second Vice-President, Marion Peck; Sec- retary, George Cromie; Treasurer, Joan Pett; Reporter, Nadine Ellsworth. Again our County Historian, Mrs. Robert Leddick, has shared historical data with us. We couldn't exist without Mrs. Leddick's support. Our project this year has been to gather pertinent information on Old Houses in our Communities and collect photographs of these homes. We explored the old ceme- teries for the names of early settlers. We all enjoyed the trip to Hyde Park, and we congratulate the Yorker Group who made West Point, and Newburgh. Pilgrim- ages planned in the near future include a trip to Bennington, Vermont, and Coopers- town. It is hoped representatives from the local chapter will attend the State-wide meeting of Yorkers in Buffalo this May. In October as part of the Surrender Day Community Program Yorkers presented a skit. The Making of the Flag in 1777 for General Philip Schuyler , and enjoyed as- sisting and serving on all committees ap- pointed . Our club periods were made enjoyable byourstudy of folklore, epitaphs, and super- stitions of New York State. Wevoted to have Program Committees appointed for each meeting and have had some very interesting material presented and so much valuable experience has been gained through this method of procedure. The 7th Grade Club sectionshave studied the history of Saratoga throughout the past year. To make their study more interesting; they made maps and scrapbooks dealing with their topic of Sara- toga. The Eighth Grade Club sections have studied together some 28 Historical Sites in the State of New York and have enlarged a post-card collection. Much fine work has been done in all sections through commit- tees. In February, for the purpose of raising money, the movie, Drums along the Mo- hawk , was shown in the school auditorium. Yes, we are happy and we are proud of the Class of '52! Most of them were York- ers! It is our sincere hope that the Class of '52 many of whom have held member- ships which had their origins as 7th Grade Clubs for Local History may now join the Yorker Alumni Club which is now in the process of organization. The Library Club of the Schuylerville High School renders a valuable service to the school in the many duties it performs toward maintaining the library. Lending books and keeping track of them, preparing new books for the shelves and repairing the old ones, collecting fines, and dusting are but a few of the many daily jobs which the members of the club do. This year the Library Club sold candy at Christmas time; a number of new books were bought with the proceeds of the sale. Club members find that it is not all drudgery working in the library. Interest in the old books and anticipation of the new ones provide a stim- ulus, and their knowledge and enjoyment of literature is ever increasing. 47 SENIOR PLAY CAST OF CHARACTERS Judy Foster A teen-age miss Melvin Foster George Cromie Her father Dora Foster .
