N51 Advcanced Speech Course Added to English Curriculum Et tu Brute was one of many quotes learned by sophomores in their study of Julius Caesar. While the sophomores read Shakespeare and Dickens, the freshmen tried to reach the purple level which was the highest in the SRA reading tests. A new course in advanced speech open to seniors perfected the fundamental principles of speech learned in the combined speech and American literature junior English courses. HELEN SAEGER: Latin I, II, National Honor Society Sponsor. Foreign Languages Draw lO5 Deutscher Verein Started An increase of 43 over last year, lO5 students took the courses offered in German and Latin. German students sang songs and practiced reading, Writing and speaking the language, and some formed a club called Deutscher Verein. Officers were Marilyn Myers, p re sidentg Don Krzycki, vice- p re sidentg Janet Pokorny, secretary- treasurer. Three students took nation-Wide German tests for scholarships. Three s tu de nt s-Bob Laugen, Di c k Qualsett, Larry Horejsi-toured Europe for six weeks with a group sponsored by a German teacher from Fremont High School. Four of the six weeks were spent studying the German language at a university in Innsbruck, Austria. Mrs. Saeger kept her Latin II class busy translating the 12 labors of Hercules, Caesar, short plays, and poetry. f i 1'
