Thus, in no small measure, you have achieved the goals that education has outlined for you. A high school cannot achieve its aims without the wholehearted support of its senior class. Proper attitudes, desir- able habits, and a sense of responsi- bility are needed if the sophomore and junior classes are to understand what contributes to good citizenship. The Faculty joins me in extending our hearty congratulations upon your achievements in your various endeavors in the past and best wishes for success in the future. May you visit us often with the full knowledge that you will be heartily welcomed! Most sincerely, Kenneth B. Varsity football candidates this year were greeted by a new face as Louis Emerick, former Schuyler All-Albany and Notre Dame halfback, made his debut as Schuyler's football coach re- placing Coach Girven. Faced with a terrific re- building job, Coach Emerick had to find replacements for graduating lettermen. Three returning lettermen formed the nucleus of Emerick's first Schuyler Squad. They included aggressive and spirited senior Bill Carmello, outstanding defensive middle guard, Vince Campanella, and speedy Bob Barth. Lacking experience and weight on the Front Row, Ielt to right: Pennick, Hanneman, Murphy, Fisher, Carmello, Campanella, Davis, Peno, Burnett, Barth, Cole. Perfect Catch , ' .. gh., ' The three strategists remaining bench, the fighting Falcons failed to notch a win in their six games. The Falcons showed plenty of scrap and go power but to little avail as our rival Albany High School administered defeat. The test brought out a bright spot through the gloom, however, as Gene Cole and Bill Carmello caused many scoring threats. Our boys fought hard, but lost a heartbreaker to Amsterdam, 13-12. But, we can look to future years, with the gain of experience on the field and the needed advice of Coach Emerick, we will again rise to great heights in the football circle. Newsome, Weber, Campanella, Coach Emerick. Graduation had taken most of the veteran performers. However, with hard work and diligent practice this year's team has managed to win 11 of 12 games up to this writing. The only loss came at the hands of Albany High in early January. The 57-58 edition of the Falcons is one of the smallest to represent the school in many years, however, exceptional speed has made up for lack of overall height. Bill LeFevre, our big Falcon Rocket Front Row, lelt to right: R. Barth, W. Carmello, S. Chambers, G. Cole, A. Francis. Second Row: W. LeFevre, R. Richards, j. Schwind, N. White. man, is 6'5 and real strong. His rebounding must be counted with the best in the country and his ability to score has given him better than a 23 pt. average per game. Bill Carmello, Joe Schwind, Gene Cole, and the sensational sophomore Sherman Chambers are all under 6' in heightg in fact, they run from 5'10 down to 5'3 . However, Bill Carmello at 5'10 can jump with 6'3 opponents and play them even. Schwind is steady and consistent, while Gene Cole directs operations from the backcourt. This contingent is ably supported by Al Francis and Ron Richards in utility roles. Seven men carry the burden of the Varsity schedule and at present are doing a creditable job. We are at least assured of a tie for the Eastern B championship and one more vic- tory would give us the title for the fourth con- secutive year. Here's hoping we get that necessary vic- tory and go on in the play-offs to another Sec- tional Championship. Carmello grabsg as fellow team mates are ready to assist. ,Q A ,Ii F 4-I WZ' ' 5 4 'E xx -I O, 2 NN U 1,322 ':ff f'e' Ri? Once again, it proved to be a very enjoyable and successful program. The festival opened with a fanfare of Christmas Carols played by members of the Schuyler band under the direction of Mr. Vin- cent Castelli. After this introduction, the choir, garbed in their choir robes and carrying lighted candles, sang to the processional of Adeste Fidelesf' After the choir members had taken their assigned places, the audience heard a fantasy- Silent Night -rendered by four student violin- ists-Carmen Ravida, Sandra Cunningham, Dom Rappazzo, and Gerry Busold. Then the Schuyler choir combining with the grade school choirs, sang the beautiful O Holy Night with our talented soloist Patti Leonard. Next, the students of Schools 15, 8, and 1 sang five songs under the direction of Miss Anna E. Gardner, director of music in Albany City schools. Then came the highlight of the program, as our Schuyler choir, under the direction of Mrs. Harriet Wands Sacca, sang four unforget- table numbers. The first, God So Loved the World , was taken from the Bible, the second A Star Was His Candle, told about that glorious night in Bethlehem, the third, Shepherd Shake Off Your Drowsy Sleep, was arranged by the Trapp Family, and the last was Gloria In Excelsis Deo, which was arranged by Fred Waring. 'ln' .i Our last song opened to a background of the timpani section of the band-which featured trumpets played by John Ritz, Donald Boel, Charles Homeyer and Paul Kant, drums by Carl Cellella and the tuba, by Sam Johnson. The two groups worked up to a strong, triumph- ant finish. Following this well executed part of the program, the choirs again combined to sing Silent Night and the beautiful Sanctus. As the program drew to a close, the Schuy-Larks come forward to sing What Can This Mean. Included in this group where Patti Leonard, Regina Kozlowski, Marylou Lenegar, Patti Eisenhauer, Thelma McNally, Shirley Weingarden, Barbara Cunningham, Beverly Ernst, Carolee Fauth, Gerry Busold and Eileen Floser. As the conclusion, the chorus once again with lighted candles, marched out of the audi- torium singing Lovely Appear. To add inspiration to this program, the entire school was decorated in blue and silver in commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniver- sary. We are sure this program will be long cherished in the memory of all, and we would like to thank everyone who helped to make it such a great success.
