Moreland Pops Kulinski Connects Swish! With that shot in the arm, the Bears finished strongly as they slugged their way through the last six games, winning three of them. One ot' those de- feats was to a soon-to-be sweet sixteen team in the State tournament, Montezuma. Proof ot' their im- provement was their victory over Rosedale, a team that had beaten them by twenty-two points at the start ot' the season. Tip off -'53-'5A With the first, full varsity schedule in the historv ot' their school facing them, the Bears gave everything they had from the opening whistle of every encounter. But in most instances. the first half of the season to be exact, the Bears just didn't have enough of that basketball know-how to beat their more experienced opponents. Although losing their first thirteen in a row, they never lost heart. Young and inexperienced as they were, they were im- proving with each battle. Very noticeable was the speedy pro- gression of Dick O'Leary, their freshman pivot-man. By the end of the season he was overwhelmingly picked as the Most Valuable Player. Inevitablv the losing streak came to an end, when the t'Bears,' clipped Prairie Creek at home on the night of February 5. Davis Lets Fly Sullivan - Two More
