Text from Pages 1 - 136 of the 1981 volume:

Where Did The Summer Go? I’ll be so glad once school starts. At least I will be able to sit down everyday and rest my poor tired feet. Patty is piled up to her neck in work. Patty Guyer will be missed on the reservation once school begins. Summer is a time For... The gang checks the depth of the water before the summer crowds arrive. Phillip enjoys seeing those greenbacks come over the counter. Relaxation and Fun. Karen Gillings gets ready to explore the underworld. Tom Williford makes a new home for the summer. 4 Once again it is another school year in which the student body of Schroon Lake returns to the rigors of Reading,Writing and Arithmetic. As the grades return they are met with an exceptionally pol- ished school with its waxed floors and clean lockers. As Mr. Farnsworth lays down the laws to Beth Lash- way, President of the Senior Class, Tiena LaPrai- rie looks through the car- eer files in the Guidance Room. Faculty outline their courses while students at- tentively listen. Mr.Bert- sche checks his lab equip- ment . 5 DEDICATION The class of 19Bl would like to dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Werner. We want to thank you for devoting your time and guidance throughout our high school years. We, the class of 1981, would like to express special thanks to our advisors, Mrs. Rodick and Mr. 'fucker, for your time and patience you have given to make the past four years successful. Administration Superintendent: Mr. Farnsworth PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Though they often don’t realize it at the time, students are the beneficiaries of the efforts of many people who have given of their time, talents or money to help students. In a way, this is an investment by the community and its indivi- duals in a valuable resource- the students. In the years ahead, you will have your opp- ortunity to return the invest- ment that has been made in you. It's my hope that as the years go by you'll come to realize the value of the investment made by others in you and that you, in turn, will be self- motivated to do likewise for the next generation wherever you live. Secretary: Norma Stowell Assistant Principal and Guidance Counselor: Mr. Werner Bus Drivers Relaxing on a break Mr. Clark plans his bay e G. Reeves, F. Venner, H. Whipple, J. Jenks, R. Hozley, D. Hubret carefully works to repaint the trim on our building. Bob says farev.ell to Lynn McCoy. 11 Cafeteria D. Liberty, D. Kirkwood, C. DeZalia, C. Moses. During the year, our caf- eteria is a very popular place for the student body, especially this year, when all students 7-12 are eating at the same time. At the beginning of the year, lines have' a tendency to be very long. However, in the spring when weather becomes warmer, students would rather be outside en- joying the sun. 12 Drew, how many times are you going to come through this line ? Academics At the beginning of the year many students set their own goals that they wish to accomplish through out the year. Many strive and meet their academic goals and are a success such as our fellow class- mate, Jim Mingo, while others continue to work towards success. Students Work For Perfection The Bausch Lomb Science Award James Mingo was nam- ed winner of the 1980-81 Bausch Lomb Science Award at Schroon Lake High School. The Science Award - a handsome bronze medal - is presented each year to winners at more than 8,500 participating schools throughout the United States anc Canada. Mingo is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mingo of Schroon Lake. “The Bausch Lomb Science Award is especially significant,” ac- cording to David Farn- sworth, Superintendent, “because it recognizes the senior student at our school who has attained the highest scholastic standing in science sub- jects.” Mingo’s final exam marks have included 96% in general science, 100% in the biology Regent ex- am, and 96% in the chemistry regents exam. As winner of the award, Mingo is eligible to com- pete for one of several four-year Bausch Lomb Science Scholarships at the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y. Scholarship winners are selected on merit, and stipends, based on need, could range up to $4,500 per year. Surveys indicate that the Award has en- couraged more than 30 percent of the winners to follow scientific careers. Bausch Lomb, with headquarters in Rochester is a world-wide manufacturer of vision care products and scien- tific instruments. 14 Who’s He Award FACULTY 19 Mrs. Gaillardet Teacher’s Aid Miss Moynihan Speech and Hearing Miss Brigid Shea Psychologist Mrs. Alexander School Nurse 23 The Senior Class would like to extend their gratitude to all members of the faculty for their guidance and instruction throughout our years at Schroon Lake Central. These years of dedication that you have given us will help us achieve our future goals and ambitions. Learning is the key to the future, what is learned through texts, classes, teacher, will open the doors to our future. XK CHALLENGE AND 26 27 GET ON YOUR DONKEY AND RIDE! It sure was a crazy night for both students and faculty members as they tried to play basketball on their donkeys I Neither the faculty nor the students won that evening, but many were surprised to see the donkeys leave victorious. Andy was the top performer on his team that finished at 2-7-3. He has led the Wildcats in scoring for the past three seasons. This year Andy received the honor of being named to the MVAC all-star cast. Andy was a threat to many opponents R. Gero on the defensive against the Panthers. R. Bessey on the attackj The Wildcats played hard throughout the year. The 1980 soccer season was a year of frustration in which the team never reached its full potential. To a large degree this occured because although the Wildcats played well in many games early in the season, they never tasted victory until their tenth contact. The season record ended at a 2-7 3 mark, with a respectable 2-3-2 showing in the second half of the season. Three seniors will be miss- ed dearly for the 1981 season. Included are high scorer for the past three seasons Andy Seeley, and two other talented athletes Rick Gero at halfback and Jim buntely at fullback. Two outstanding players who will be back next year include Rick Seeley on the line, and 8th grade goalie Dave Clark. Coach: Mr. Ambrosini R. The girl's vsrsity soccer team worked hard at earning a respectable sessoris record this fall. The results were Ij. wins, 5 losses, 2 ties and 1 forfeit. The attitudes of the players seemed to be more aggressive this year, as well as perform- ing with better skills. Although the majority of the players were returning from lsst year, several freshman added to the team's success and spirit. Lori Smith, a senior, proved to be one of the outstanding Forwards in Schroon Lake's history. Deanna Wemett, a junior, gave over 100 effort ss the Wildcats Goalie. Tina Armstrong, a sophomore, gave of her sprint- ing ability to play as Halfback in order to maintain the strong offensive patterns set up by the team. A fine effort was put forth by the team, and the season's record was the best in Schroon Lake's history for the girls. Kim Hall has her ankle taped while her teammate, Lori Smith, eagerly awaits for the game to begin. WILDCATS ARE ON THE MOVE Varsity Basketball Kneeling: R. Wilcox, T. Bartoloir.eo, R. Hall J. Class Flower: Long Stem Rose The four high school years are filled wi tl many new and different experiences for each person. Although we do not all share the same experiences, each of us learns a little something from each mistake or success. It is through these high school experiences that we each mature and become the person we want to be. r' Vi 1980 Graduation Time Some say thst the years that we spend in school are the most difficult time of our life. In actuality, it is the easiest. To make friends, learn and achieve are only a few of the things that will be expected of us in years after graduation. Graduation is the time for looking back on all of the things that meant so much to us. Ihe joys and sorrows of friend- ships, the good times we spent through the years in Schroon Lake Central and, whether we want to admit it, the feeling of success in acheiving the most important thing to one's personal make-up and future- an education. Graduation is also a time for looking ahead toward what life will be like for each and every one of us in the future. We hope that the years we've spent in Schroon Lake Central h8s prepared us morally, psycholog- ically and in knowledge to help us face the world as individuals.
