It was difficult to get a good defensive and a good offensive going at the same time. Opening the season against Rocksprings, the Rebels burst forth with a great offensive effort and completely smothered their opponents with touchdowns. The Rebel speedy halfbacks, Jack Livingston and Richard Welwood ran the Rocksprings' defense ragged. Fullback David Cummings of Houston showed that he had lots of speed also as he went 65 and 45 yards for two of the Rebel TD's.
