MOUIH Unward Sue Dorn, Mr. Maclntosh, Eddie Lloyd, Frankie Ci- farelli, Ray Saulter Finally at last the big year was here Gone was our worry of the upperclassman s sneer The junior year they say is the best Filled with good times excitement and zest The G O aided by Kammerlohr and Saulter Made the wheels of government roll without falter Fall brought Port s gridiron boys onto the field Stiffness from first days maneuvers soon healed Now for the games the real man s test Wing Taylor and Milhaven as lmesmen were best Could we kick? Could we pass? Ask Null and Nataloni Their yards gained were proof that their skill was not phoney A special attraction came at the half The Port High School band with its talented staff Leading the band making twirling look easy Were our junior majorettes Donald Lingard and Bisi. Varsity hockey had an undefeated season With Hooper and Galta the obvious reason. j.V. starting Christy Dorn Donald and Klumpp Rarely found its scoring to be in a slump. Others with stick work that really did sparkle Were Roome, Lou Tera, Goodoff and Markle. Soccer, this year, was a new game to Port, And in years to come, it will grow as a sport. All the participants ardently triedg Their standing was three won, two lost and one tied. junior boys, without doubt, were the backbone of tennisg McGrady and Slusser on the courts were a menace. on if ,' .sg lj, C5 ec:- 7 if Senior high school! We finally made it! But, oh how frightened we were. We watched in awe as upperclassmen strolled casually down the halls, talking and laughing at our ignorance. Yes, we as Sophomores had a lot to learn, but it wasn't long before we got rolling. Our first undertaking in senior high was the organ- ization of our class. The officers we chose were cap- able leaders, indeed, contributing to the smooth man- agement of our class affairs and doing their share for the G.O. as well. Carol Sleght was our president with Howie Gibbons second in command. -jane Ingley was our most competent secretary and Noel Certain handled financial affairs with true finesse. Football didn't phase our rough and ready soph boys. Out there passing the pigskin for the Varsity team were Al Szabo, Howie Davis and Charlie Kezar Cincidentally, when Charlie played, a certain soph history teacher cheered the loudestb. Our boys just about filled the ranks of the J.V. team, and we're certainly proud of them. Never let it be said that our girls were slow in contributing their prowess to the sports world! We saturated the hockey club-and just about made up the entire J.V.g Jane Ingley, Marianne Bendiks, Diane Rohn, Betsy Ingley, Margaret Mamet, Helen Harding, Myrna Speck, Kay Marbut, Sue Riley, Florence Siegel and Mary McAll were all members. To them goes the credit for keeping our j.V. undefeated and unscored upon. Volleyball and basketball teams, too, had their soph- omore members with Betsy Rayner, Marianne Ben- diks, Rosamond Blakeslee and the Ingley girls heading the list. For Sports Night our soph leaders were Carol Sleght and jane Ingley for the Whites, Betsy Ingley and Debby O'Reilly for the Blues. Nancy Schling- hyde, Carol Boehme, Margaret Edwards and Catherine Giagu were our contributions to the spiightly Port High majorette squad. We are well represented by talented musicians in both band and orchestra. In the All Eastern Confer- ence Orchestra, there were three members of our class-Paula Van Bodegraven, Leo Ullman and Helen Harding. Now that April's Here, our dramatic pro- duction for the year, had Rosemary Furth, Sue Mar- tineau, Elizabeth Salerno, Doug Kirkpatrick, Judy Enscoe and Bill Wallace in its cast. Sidney Georgiou did a remarkable job in Red Domino's February pro- duction of Arsenic and Old Lace. This performance made us realize his potentialities for future dramatic productions. Four of the top five on the j.V. basket- ball team were sophs. They were John Kirkman, Howie Gibbons, Noel Certain, and Chris Gale. These and our other soph boys helped the j.V. achieve its first place position in the North Shore division. Will we ever forget Spring Fever, our class's first dance? The band, entertaimnent-everything was per- fect. We sophomores feel that we've had an action packed first year at Port High. We are looking for- ward with great anticipation to when we can return as up-and-coming juniors and then Bnally as big seniors.

hon That kept our record looking alive ln Cl o Cclerity Retort and all XVe showed everyone that our class couldn t fall. ln all clubs, boys and girls alike lent a handg E.g., what would Port Weekly be like without A. Loveland? The newcomers to Fratry were the source of much laughter, Stunts pulled on them were remembered long after. Boys, joining this club, made it a rule To perform great service to community and school. The story of dramatics is on another page Which, when turned to, spotlights our stage. Killam, Barsky and Foster, our talent revealed, And the juniors' class play really appealed. Credits must go to Bob Slusset and crewg Their lighting effects were outstanding too. When volleyball came, girls swarmed to the nets: Captains Williams and Tera were our best bets. All too soon, the volleyball nets went downg Then female basketball fiends went to town. Varsity members Ketz and Hooper really could play, While Kammerlohr kept our opponents at bay. Boys' basketball came and the teams were soon picked, We were sure from the start they'd never be licked. With Varsity juniors-Pollack, Lincoln and Hull, Plus McGrady and Lloyd, the game never looked dull. The j.V. fought hard in every bout: Their aim was sureg their hearts were stout. Hats off to you boys, you did a swell jobg Much credit must go to Frank, Mike and Bob. To give their boys the little extra shove J V cheerleaders fit the part like a glove To help win the games, they got us to roar, Among them were Klumpp, Dorn and Kammerlohr. Christy-Gaita-Salerno-Tera-Dlugilecki, To the final buzzer, kept Port rooters peppy. We shone in the band, that is, Taylor and Ray, And all of the juniors were real proud to say That in orchestra we also had members to aidg Lincoln, Arnold and White were several that played. Baseball and softball, spring sports that we love, Revealed countless Dimaggios with bat, ball and glove Some of our athletes took to the trackg The sprinters were off when they heard the gun crack. High jumpers and pole vaulters all seemed to fly, And their feats were encouraged by many a cry. Then Spring Carnival cameg all juniors helped outg It was a sure success and great fun throughout. Lots of students from PDSHS Came to our prom, decked out in their best. The entertainment was terrific, thanks to the band, And our talented juniors who helped make it grand. Our junior year is now about to pass And one we feel sure t'will be hard to surpass. Our experiences and accomplishments have been more than numerous, Along with great times, happy and humorous. To what lies ahead, let us now turn our minds- What knowledge can we gain? What joy can we find?
