CELERITY Celerity, the honor service organization for girls, spurred on by its motto, Service to the School and the Community, executed its numerous activities with great enthusiasm. To start off its busy year, in September Celeriy held an ac- quaintance tea for the Sophomore girls to help enlighten them as to the school's various activities and clubs. The win- ter's arduous task was preparing Christmas baskets for the Community Santa Claus, who delivers them to needy famil- ies in the village. During February, in keeping with Valentine's Day, the club sponsored a hop, Cupid's Copers, the proceeds of which were given to the Sloane-Kettering Memorial Cancer Fund in memory of Mrs. Mildred Piazza, former adviser of Celerity. This year Celerity also devel- oped the Junior Celerity as one of its many functions to help the Sophomores become active citizens of Port High. Throughout the year Celerity assisted at various social events, such as Open House, plays and concerts, card par- ties and dinners. They also helped make appointments for the Blood Bank. Ending its year on a pleasant note, the girls served at the Senior Banquet, and ushered for the Baccalaureate Service and the graduation exercises. The officers of this year's club were Barry Wood, Pres- ident; Marilyn Fanshawe, Vice President; Nancy Cunning- ham, Secretary; Linda Schneeloch, Treasurer; Mrs. Graham, Adviser. F R AT R Y FRATRY OFFICERS Frotry is the Boy's Service Organization, and through '53-'54 it could not have lived up to that title better. Under the leadership of Adviser, Mr. Horton; President, Eugene Santiciolli; Vice President, Herbert Watson; Secretary-Treas- urer, William Thompson, Fratry had its organizational fin- ger in many pies. During the entire fall and winter sports competition at home, the fellows handled the sale of re- freshments. Only twenty-five dollars of the over one thou- sand dollars grossed through such sales went into the club treasury, the rest enriching the G. O. Later in the year the boys again displayed their ability for making money by presenting the social and financial success of the season, the Fratry Dance. Cash awards were given to the winners of the Fratry-sponsored Talent Show. The Fratry Cup went to the best actor of the interclass plays. At the end of the year the Fratry award for sportsmanship and athletic achievement went to a member of the Senior Class. Com- munity-wise, Fratry aided the Red Cross and Civil Defense in their projects. The original purpose of the club as set up in 1926, was to foster good citizenship, assist in school activities, and make the members useful in school affairs. Through this past year Fratry has indeed achieved this purpose, and more. It has provided a standard of performance respected within the school. David Kane 21
