SCHOOL GF THE OZARKS 'IIIQ ' THE MUSIC CLUB Progress is the established order of our music department which is completing its third successful year, under the efiicient instruction of Mrs. F. A. Hays. Several interesting recitals have been enjoyed but the musical treat of the year Will be the closing recital, the first to be given in the beau- tiful Josephine B. Green Chapel, when the superb vose concert grand piano, the recent gift of Mr. Fred Jenkins of Kansas City, will be used. Beyond expression is our gratitude for Mr. Jenkins' Wonderful gift which will be an inspiration and an incentive for our best effort. Another event of importance will be our participation, for the first time, in the Music Festival, to be held soon in the Springfield Teacheris College, shared in by all first class high schools of south Western Missouri. We are most favored in being represented by Lois Morgan, our very talented and most advanced student in music. Through Lois We may confidently dream of trophies. I An interesting and instructive innovation has recently been inaug- uratedfthe music memory contest, fostered by Mrs. S. P. Weaver, Shreveport, La., who has given twenty Victrola records for the purpose of familiarizing students with the best musical compositions and making them acquainted with their composers. A contest will be conduct- ed May 19th when prizes of two and one-half, and five dollars, provided by Mrs. Weaver, will be given. The successes of these three years be- token splendid achievements for future ones. n sS9 N 'Q' Wy,,,fZ'i- A sr ' 'R I liek--.Ax ' V Q V . wi- - - Q 1'-:'f'.'?.i5:-wi., - '- 'SSSX N . . ,. . 1 .413 tgirl-fx ar leg .1-5-E12Q5:a.. i- f ' , -T ' - ef., I'v,lIf i ' V naxfgi, 1-Q - 1,1 -Q vt Il'-'Q fi , fc .ff SW ' - iN ffNN51 -2:r- '11. .-r- 1-Q.-.. .n -1-1 ell ' :- 1- - -' '- ' if :j-'- x'e.,.:- .. -7-L7 11 , , I , , . ...,,,. .... it il ctw? I X we C OL GF T 'r ozAR s ' si ATHLETICS NUSUAL interest in Athletics was shown this year. In w basket ball this was, no doubt, due to the new gymna- sium and also to the organization of the White River League, composed of Branson, Blue Eye, Forsyth, Hollister and The School of the Ozarks. We hoped to get in the new gymnasium early in the fall, but unavoidable-delays in building kept us out until after Christmas. We kept up our practice on the open court tho kept off most of the time by unfavorable weather. After Christmas we entered into our practices with more enthusiam than ever and our team, which had repeatedly lost to strong- er teams, began to make those teams in their return games take notice In our last game which was with Forsyth we trounced them soundly whereas earlier the reverse had been true. The tournament was held here in our new gymnasium and was a wonderful success. 'I ho we did not win the tour- nament cup our team made an excellenttshowing. Both games were lost by two points and to the two best teams in the tournancent. As for track it remains to be seen iust vihat will happen. We have excellent material on our team and we are coniident of winning the cup for the third time and thus obtain per- manent owner hip of it. The meet is set for M y 'Sth and our boys are working hard to get in shape. Much interest is also being shown in ba. eball this year too. A new diamond has been laid out sfuth of the new building and with many good iren out prospect are bright for a winning team. I Nevertheless whether we win or lose in our games whose purpose is to train us for the game of life may we remember this motto When the on, great Scarer comes to write against your name He writes not that you won or lost but how you played the game.
