9 LITERARY ACTIVITIES MOST important part of the activities was played by the two literary societies the Kel Lydi- ans and Zeto Sophians. At the beginning of the year representatives of the two societies 'met and divided the new students. Then the fight Was on! The so- cieties gave programs alternately on Saturday evens ings each striving to give a better entertainment than the other. The programs were mostly of a humorous nature with a little seriousness mixed in and a good list of music produced by our gifted students All this provided a change and rest from the concentra- tion in the class room. The debating Club consi.ting of some ten mem- bers was organized in October Three of these were chosen to represent the School in the Missouri Debatg ing League. The question for the year wasi Re- solved: A Federal Department ,of Education should be created with a'Secretary in the President's Cabi- net. T Our team had the negative side of the debate and lost both to Crane and to Rogersville. Other de- bates among the students at various times Werejboth amusing and instructive. r T S j During the latter part of the year each Senior was required to lead chapel. A few of them had been 'in front of an audience before and took to the stage like a duck to water, but a majority of them had to brace themselves against the trusty radiator and force their husky voices to repeat the sentences they had written on the notes. However, some very good talks were given, which proves that their literary trainingvhere SCHOOL or TH OZARKS has not been in vain. r.., . is il sl 'fs-X s.'rw 1- Q- 1,f42k s +93 I A , , , f ! 11- -'J- .'2. i'Q:LgfxR .,, 6, ' , -1, 3:11 ,v .4f.m.,. -- -S-sssskxwg. .-, - . , A Q -- ' : ,QW ,, lrfli- , , -153 f' 'NZ , , ,,,- z ' 4? .. 1Y'l 'sm1:'-nr '- P: r..f:if1, 1 -' 1 - QPFFL --r -'-M - I ,. -2 ' I -,ali ' iq, I, ' -ff , C121 - , - -- --,ge - af - - 1fL':f. 1 ,zrfge-'fe-Qffrwl' .11:,12e11'i jffafirgsrm,--r-------fi'5'1 H: x, ' 21.
