During the first few weeks we were sorry to see three of our classmates leave. The beginning was a hard adjustment for all of us. The studies and the books looked so long and seemed so hard. The live-out students needed much support, love, and help from their families and friends in order to keep their sanity. Finally, we began to get organized and elected our class officers. Sorry to say, our class president, Mrs. Heidelberg, was ill in the hospital the day we elected her. She came back to a big surprise. On November 8 our first progress reports arrived with much tension felt among all of us. Miss Mears broke out in hives and her palms were dripping. Three more of our classmates left us. November 27 — our big Thanksgiving dinner and our first exam in Anatomy. The meal was delicious, and it started snowing. December 4 was our bazzar with much success. December 20 — Second progress report and the beginning of our Christmas holiday. Mrs. Heidelberg left us due to her illness and, all the work she missed during her hospitalization seemed to be too much for her to take at this time. Mrs. Heidelberg, we will miss you. January 8 we had a class meeting — Vice president, Cindy Conder, replaced the position of presidency, and a new election of Miss Phillips to the position of vice president was made. March 26 — Med-Surg I exam April 30 — our big convention and tour of Woodrow Wilson Rehab. Center in Fishers- ville, VA. Vanda, JoAnn, Cynthia and Charlotte had a good time going out and left Pepper and me at the motel. Mrs. Holland had a room to herself. Miss Peirson, Mrs. Guy, and Mrs. Duer were left in the other room. It took 4 hours — not 7 hours, Valarie. Missy and Mrs. Johnson didn’t go. Mrs. Guy worked on her Kleenex box during the convention lectures. In June we were invited to a hospital picnic, and we had lots of good food and drinks too. We got Miss Peirson in the water. On July 2, a dark cloud hovered over us. There were 38 days of school left. We were on duty at the hospital, and four of our closest students from this small group were called off duty and requested to leave the program because their grades didn’t quite make the 85 overall average. On July 23, after a long, hard battle to get back in, all the students were reinstated into the NAM School of Practical Nursing program on a probationary period. During those three weeks, our days just weren’t the same, and we felt the work we were doing was for them also. We are proud of you all, now lets all graduate on August 27th. May God be with you now and forever, Your class historian, Mary Hollowed
