During the first few weeks we were sorry to see three of our classmates leave. The beginning was a hard adjustment for all of us. The studies and the books looked so long and seemed so hard. The live-out students needed much support, love, and help from their families and friends in order to keep their sanity. Finally, we began to get organized and elected our class officers. Sorry to say, our class president, Mrs. Heidelberg, was ill in the hospital the day we elected her. She came back to a big surprise. On November 8 our first progress reports arrived with much tension felt among all of us. Miss Mears broke out in hives and her palms were dripping. Three more of our classmates left us. November 27 — our big Thanksgiving dinner and our first exam in Anatomy. The meal was delicious, and it started snowing. December 4 was our bazzar with much success. December 20 — Second progress report and the beginning of our Christmas holiday. Mrs. Heidelberg left us due to her illness and, all the work she missed during her hospitalization seemed to be too much for her to take at this time. Mrs. Heidelberg, we will miss you. January 8 we had a class meeting — Vice president, Cindy Conder, replaced the position of presidency, and a new election of Miss Phillips to the position of vice president was made. March 26 — Med-Surg I exam April 30 — our big convention and tour of Woodrow Wilson Rehab. Center in Fishers- ville, VA. Vanda, JoAnn, Cynthia and Charlotte had a good time going out and left Pepper and me at the motel. Mrs. Holland had a room to herself. Miss Peirson, Mrs. Guy, and Mrs. Duer were left in the other room. It took 4 hours — not 7 hours, Valarie. Missy and Mrs. Johnson didn’t go. Mrs. Guy worked on her Kleenex box during the convention lectures. In June we were invited to a hospital picnic, and we had lots of good food and drinks too. We got Miss Peirson in the water. On July 2, a dark cloud hovered over us. There were 38 days of school left. We were on duty at the hospital, and four of our closest students from this small group were called off duty and requested to leave the program because their grades didn’t quite make the 85 overall average. On July 23, after a long, hard battle to get back in, all the students were reinstated into the NAM School of Practical Nursing program on a probationary period. During those three weeks, our days just weren’t the same, and we felt the work we were doing was for them also. We are proud of you all, now lets all graduate on August 27th. May God be with you now and forever, Your class historian, Mary Hollowed Beth, where’s your bathing suit? Cool Chick Finally, a break from school! Bathing beauty 14 Din-Din Time Pepper’s at it again!. Relaxation after convention Florence Nightingale and sisters 15 Look at that smile! Our somewhat dedicated yearbook staff Teeth-Gritter Cindy, do that on your free time! Sheila, what happened to your hair? N.A.M. Cheerleader 16 Awesome headache T.P.I. here I come! Shelia, cross your legs! Please leave me alone! Miss Catastrophe! N.A.M. beauty contestants 17 NURSING MOTHERS 18 Will this day never end? From nursing to acrobatics Do I look dumb? Oh no! Another Med-Surg test! 19 They’re squeesing my buns! Breaktime Gossip Vanda s heroic act Victim of Cindy’s nursing care 20 DO YOU REMEMBER? Remember Pat’s gurgles in the library? Remember telling Mrs. Johnson every answer after a test? Remember Magnum TA? Remember Vanda’s birthdays? Remember Missy’s colds self-diagnosed as “allergies”? Remember wondering if the causeway will be closed and if the Chincoteague girls will be able to get home? Remember all the things Luke can do now? Remember Pat and Beth’s room being invaded by crea¬ tures? Remember Annette’s $700.00 investment? Remember Lisa’s many things she did “across the bay”? Remember Pepper and Missy being so accident-prone? Remember Cindy feeding Beth and Mary? Remember when Jeff (Bubba) finally came home from overseas? (Yeah, Mary!) Remember when Vanda threatened to kill Mary at gradu¬ ation? Remember Chapter 33; Oral Moniliasis — Thrush? Remember when Cindy would go to bed at 7:00, and we had 3 tests to study for? Remember when Shelia would bring the live-ins ice cream and treats during study hours? Remember when Charlotte told us the time she played monkey for her husband? In Dreamland again, Cynthia? Another boring 3-hour study! Remember Tweedy Bird in her cute yellow outfit? Remember Annette’s bad luck all year? Remember Gloria? Remember Cynthia hardly speaking a word? Remember “On Old Olympus Tippidy Top, a frog, viewed great volcanoes and hopped. Some say, ‘Marry money’, but my brother says, ‘Bad business marries money.” Remember when Mrs. Holland actually quit smoking? OUR BEDTIME PRAYER Now I lay me down to rest, Med-Surg notes upon my chest. If I should die before I wake, That’s one less test I’ll have to take! Miss Pat Mears and fellow students of NAM Institution A picture of innocence 21 CLASS SONG We’ve Only Just Begun We’ve only just begun to live, White caps and promises, A kiss for luck — and we’re on our way. Before the rising sun we fly, So many roads to choose, We start our walking and learn to run. And yes, We’ve just begun. Sharing horizons that are new to us, Watching the signs along the way. Talking it over just a few of us, Working together day to day — together. And when the evening comes we smile, so much of life ahead, We’ll find a place — where there’s room to grow. And yes, we’ve just begun, We’ve Only Just Begun. 22 GRADUATING CLASS OF 1986 . ffni it i im t • ' — - . ' - T T pfe - „• • , ■ 1 “T’”.. ' r. .-,:r • • •.. • .Jr 5 «.
