WHITE CAPS 1978 Dedication We, the class of 1978, dedicate our yearbook to the “new” and the “old”. To Mrs. Mapp, the “new”, for her ability to keep going during a somewhat TRYING first year of teaching. Perhaps the next year will become smoother. After all, we’ve given her very good experience. Thank-you, Mrs. Mapp To Mrs. Cramer, the “old” (not chronologically). We do indeed appreciate her teaching qualities and her ability to keep us going. CLASS HISTORY OF 1977-78 The hectic day of September 18 may be blurred in some of our minds, but the occasion will always be remembered. That day was marked by new faces (later to become dear friends) and squeaky strange beds. The nineteenth day of September started a new career for us. We were introduced to our instructors. The class officers and the yearbook staff were voted upon on October 19, our first’ class meeting. After working hard on the many Christmas articles that we made, putting everything out on the tables, and making all the baked goods November 30 was here. It was time for our Annual Bazaar. December 13 was “Look-a-Like Day.” We dressed in our uniforms and caps. There was no longer the problem of “What will I wear today?” On January 31 was our first day of duty. Everybody was a little nervous and a little scared. After two postponements we thought this day would never come. In April we left for Richmond for our first “Nurses’ Convention.” Of course we attended Student’s Day. Our lecture was on “Reponsibilty and Accountabilty.” On June 16 we went to a beach party to Tankard’s Beach. On July 17 we went to another beach party to Assateague. We all enjoyed it, but most of us did not enjoy the pain from the sunburn. On August 15, we had a tour of the Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg. Our own personal lives were greatly affected by this year. Some of us had never been away from home or lived with a bunch of “wacky” girls. But everyone seemed to adjust well considering the many games and pranks, such as the waterfights, greased toilet seats, and toilet paper spider webs. There were a couple of engagements and then weddings. We even had a baby born. This of course includes the much appreciated and fun surprise showers. May God be with all of us. I also leave all the encouragement and prayers that have helped me finish this course. I, Cindy Carpenter, leave my seat by the air conditioner to anyone who doesn’t want to listen, but wants to learn to read lips. I, Betty Chance, leave my sleepless nights to the incoming students. I, Carey Chapman, being of sound mind (?) and body (!) do hereby leave to Mrs. Guy a 3 year supply of Valium to be taken in case of future Carey Chapmans. I, Jean Davis, being of sound mind body do hereby leave Mrs. Mapp a generous supply of aspirin so she can make it through next year’s OB course, especially all those embarrasing chapters. I, Debbie Doughty, hereby leave my room ( 1) to whoever loves the morning sunshine as much as I. I, Evora Jackson, leave you this school and God cause you’ll need Him to keep your sanity. I, Joyce Leager, being of unstable mind worn out body leave my place in this school to anyone next year who wants it. I, Debbie Moore, leave room 8 and its leaky ceiling to the person who gets it next year. I also leave next year’s class all the good luck, courage, and faith possible because you’ll need it to become a good nurse. I, Christianna Reed, will my slenderness to all of the big people of next year’s class. I, Kathy Romines, being of deteriorating mind and short body do hereby leave. I, Faye Smith, being of sound mind old fractures, leave my crutches to anyone who needs them next year. I, Bonnie Spence, don’t will anything to anybody because I don’t have anything to leave. I, Cheryl Upshur, being of sound mind body will my ability to remain even-tempered, even through the roughest storms. I, Sandra Whaley, leave my car to next year’s auto mechanic, if it won’t start to take me home Aug. 30th. I, Mildred Young, leave my bump in the rear, speeding ticket, and 70 miles day drive to anyone living in the dorm. 15 I can’t take anymore! NO! Don’t jump Kathy! Good-bye cruel world! Population explosion. The longest walk. I can’t understand this writing. I delivered one all by myself. Another day with no pay and Georgia Mae. I MUST look busy.
