September 20, 1976, N.A.M. School of Practical Nursing opened its doors for the 20th year to welcome 31 girls and 1 fellow October saw the beginning of fire drills and the initiation of the fire marshall with a trash can full of water. Class officers were elected and volunteers for the Yearbook were drafted. A big pumpkin, Diesel Dan, guarded our door for Halloween. In November, we al3 worked hard on the projects for the Christinas Bazaar. Learning to knit, crochet, needlepoint, cook and making four quilts proved ehjoyable and profitable on December 1st. Our first exposure to those exams to follow was in N.L.S. and fortunately we all left happily for the Thanksgiving Holidays. December 6th was our blue letter day’ as we finally appeared in full uniforms. Our presentation of Charlie Brown’s Christmas was enjoyed by the R.N.s at their Christmas Party. Our Christmas Psirty, hosted by the instructors, and with gift exchanges was enjoyed by all. The pre-clinical evaluations proved a nervous time for all of us, but somehow we all received new ’contracts’. The New Year brought with it snow, ice and Jane’s diamond. Thelma, an S foot ’snow nurse’, was erected and edible treats of snow cream were a welcome change. Dr. Callahan and Dr. Thompson performed an unprecedented hemorrhoid¬ ectomy in room 9. The ’victim’ survived. January 27th heralded o ir debut on the floors and no fatalities were reported. February saw many well-intended pranks in attempts to cure the winter •blahs’. February 11th brought welcomed relief as we braved our first full day of floor duty. Adrenalin flowed freely. March kept us busy with Nutritional Dinners and a magic show by Mr. D . The raffling of 2 quilts, Easter baskets ( melted bxmny ) and a rummage sale proved successful and helped earn our way to the LPNAV Convention held in April. Our convoy slowly made way to Williamsburg for the convention. We truly were pioneers in snirit as we braved the business meetings (especially without lights or sound). I can’t HEAR. Fiighteen weary students and two exhausted instructors welcomed the sight of the Nurses’ Home again after 3 days of complete chaos. Gawn, who got the key to my room? Hello, Bob, this is Cindy. Much to our delight, the ground-work was begun for the tennis courts and the ladies of the Moose presented a sewing ina.chine to the school. May marked another milestone as we administered and received our initial injection. Ouch!!! Now, we know how it feels. During our schooling we have each made many strides and at years-end, N.A.M. School of Practical Nursing will award diplomas to us as nurses of the FUTURE. Ix)is Taylor Class Historian
