This is the second time that they have received this highest pos- sible rating according to standards set by the New York State Music Association. Schoharie Central School Band has the distinc- tion of being the only band with this rating in Schoharie County. There are 52 members in the band this year. Twenty-one of these members took part in the County Music Festival at Coble- skill Central School. Gene Sellick, Cale Furman, Lawrence Becker. Elizabeth Borst and Richard Polgreen participated in the state sectionals held at Saratoga this year. Cale Furman has been ac- cepted by audition into the state band which is meeting at Albany. So far this year the band has participated in several parades and in the future plans to play for a number of organizations. Besides striving to maintain their high rating musicwise. the group is also working at becoming a better marching band. The Yearbook Staff wishes to heartily congratulate Mr. lVlenz and the band members for bringing this musical recognition to our school. Front Row, left to right: Flutes - M. Cilberti, H. Rehearsals are held every Thurs- day. eighth period. during which the girls prepare for the many musical activities that they parti- cipate in. A Couple of these events are the County Music Festival and Spring Concert. hoth annual affairs. This year the Clee Cluh sang for Veterans' Uay and in our Christmas program. The organiza- tion has also sent two girls, Lois Ritter and Betsy Loclcrow to the Sectional lVlusie Festival at Sara- toga. The Dance Band is a newly formed outfit. with a seemingly bright future. With lf? enthusiastic members, this organization has been practicing regularly Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is expected that soon they will be playing for most of our dances. It seems that all they need now is a good fiddle player 1 and it will he the lnest band in the country. You can lie sure that with lVlr. lVlenz at the head of the organization, it will be a hit just like the regular hand. Front Row. left to right: C. Scranton. J. Branier. H. Keyser. tl. Furman. I.. Kulesa During the 1955-56 basketball season, Coach Murrayls fighting-five gave their opponents some tough competition in all of their games. Even though some of the games werenlt victorious. they were hard fought right through to the end, and lost in good spirit, which showed the good sports- manship of the Junior Varsity. Much deserved credit goes to Coach Murray for the fine training he gave the boys in good sportsmanship and has- ketball tactics. This year a majority of the hoys were new on the team. while a few were from last year's team. Hats off to Coach Murray and his fine ,I-V team. Page 27 Nov Nov Nov Nov. Dec. Dee. Dec. Dec. Jan. With the return of only two lettermen plus the fact that some of the most promising material either left school for the service or did not report, left the squad in poor condition. Coach Smith feels that during the second half of the schedule the Schoharie team will improve and will make a good record for itself. At this time the Coach would like to point out that the sportsman- ship displayed both by the students and the team re- ceives favorable comment from all opponents. Many steps have been taken to accomplish this. Through its efforts, a point system has been put into operation whereby a student can gain recog- nition for his participation in school activities. The Council has stationed monitors in the hallways and on the school buses. These monitors aid the school administration in maintaining order.
