Nonetheless, as vve approach the half way point in this deployment, I thought l should tell you that a remarkable thing is happening among the Black Knights of HS-4. To a man, every pilot and aircrevvman in this squadron has developed a strong personal feeling of respect and affection for your ship and crevv. This is based on SCHOFlELD's consistently outstanding performance of all evolutions in vvhich vve participate together. I am most pleased to say that my personalopinion is in complete agreement vvith those of my other flight personnel. The factors vvhich have led to this opinion are: 1. Consistent excellence in your performance of Anti-Submarine Air Control of our helicopters - our pilots feel safe under the expert control of your ASAC's. 2. Your superior performance during evolutions that require us to come aboard for in-flight refueling and transfer of personnel or cargo - your deck crew is the most efficient vve have seen. In the vvords of one senior pilot, 'SCHOFIELD can do more vvith eight men than the others can do with sixteen. 3. Your quick response to HlFR!transfer requests at any time - the elapsed time from initial call to Green Deck is alvvays the least with SCHOFIELD, and the deck is alvvays ready: clean, cleared of excess personnel, and with correct relative winds provided. 4. Your concern for the well-being of the helicopter crew - our aircrews actively compete for the privilege of coming to SCHOFIELD on a utility run, and will always choose SCHOFIELD if available for refueling in the middle of a long flight. lVlore than any other single thing, the truly outstanding box lunches and jugs of liquid refreshment have endeared your ship to us. We in HS-4 hope that our squadron plaque can be appropriately displayed aboard SCHOFIELD, and that it will in a small way serve as a token of our deeply felt appreciation of the continued outstanding performance and service of SCHOFIE LD. Very respectfully, Warren E. AUT Commander, U.S. Navy
