OUR SEASON IN A NUTSHELL The flrst football team 1n the h1story of Schleswlg H1gh was organlzed this fall Wlth f1fteen asplrants reportlng to Coach Top for the f1rst practlce The Hawks f1rst grxd contest was wlth Sergeant Bluff 1n an afternoon game on thelr fleld The Hawks showed a lot of flght also a lot of greeness but managed to stay on top untll the last mlnutes of the duel when Sergeant Bluff countered a touchdown pass ln the last mmute of the garne to put them mto the lead twenty to nmeteen The Hawks desperately trled to come back but failed ln the short tlme remaxmng The Hawks had lost thexr flrst contest but nevertheless they kept rxght on flghtxng and f1n1shed the season wlth a three wln and three loss mark The second game of the season saw a stronger Schleswxg S1x maul Macedonla by the score of forty fxve to zero before a large home crowd Schleswlg poured on the steam m thelr thlrd game as they huxnbled Sergeant Bluff thxrty elght to twelve thus avenglng a prevxous defeat handed out by the Warrmors In a w11d free scorlng tussel at Shelby the Hawks were st1fled by Mr Norman and Co 51XtY to forty seven Th1s game was the hxghest sconng contest for the state ln s1x man football ln an mdxvxdual scormg race Beep Sonksen outpomted thrlce all state Dlck Norman thn-ty e1ght to th1rty s1x mn the game After a week s layoff the Hawks journeyed to W1nnebago Nebraska where they met the rugged lndxans ln an afternoon game Wmnebago pxled up a thxrteen to zero lead the fxrst half On the very f1rst play of the second half Sonksen raced for a touchdown but this effort failed as Wxnnebago contmued to plle up then' lead and amassed a th1rty one to twelve flnal score Smartmg from two stra1ght losses Schleswxg took It out on the hapless Domes from Macedoma as they walloped them flfty three to zero In wxnmng thexr game of the sxx game schedule the benches were cleared and everybody saw some actlon Ten players earned letters th1s year of these seven wxll be returmng for next year s team They are Harold Fxck Jerry Hess Gene Koepke Alfred Stonekmg Sheldon Pee Wee Lyman Ronald Anderson and Dale Lehmann Schleswlg loses xts two captaxnl Gene Evers and Beep Sonksen by graduatlon and Norman Frxedrxchsen who dropped from school 26 , . . . . . - 1 1 A , . 1 ' 1 1 n - I . , - , . 1 1 ' 'Q . . . . . ., I, . . . .
