exghth grade crulse among the Islands of Smaller Learnxng and who I was glad to learn was JOID me IH thls larger voyage We were both congratulatmg ourselves upon the mutual pleasure of longer compamonshxp together when we turned to welcome a thxrd comer who had come from a dxstant clty to take passage wlth us We peeped over her shoulder as she wrote her name We Were surprlsed to declpher the letters she wrote as B e t t y B 1 e l e n b e r g We had heard of the young lady before and had known of her many pranks so wh1le we knew we would not f1nd her overly fond of study we were sure her Jolly nature would brxghten for us many and otherwlse gloomy hour In a short tlme we were Jomed by a fourth and a fxfth They were Lols Jensen and Lalune Baeth They had also traveled wzth us m days past Soon many were crowd mg around us xncludxng Gerald Sonksen who became affectlonately known as Beep Harms Grxll Elaxne Kuehl Leila Benmgsdorf Rxchard Pxckel Lodean Korner and Shxrley Sherman These people were mostly from other places but chose our faxr shlp upon whxch to make thexr voyage There were still a couple of farnllxar faces we hadn t seen but they soon made then' appearance too F1rst carne Mar11yn Chrxstxansen and last but not least Rxchard Wehner Nova that all the berths were fxlled we were assured of a very happy voyage We notzced at the outset of the voyage that the stream upon whxch we had set saxl was comparatlvely narrow and sheltered but uslng our fleld glasses we could see such wxde vlstas of water ahead that we were led to 1nqu1re of the Captain the s1gn1f1c ance of the sltuatlon He explalned to us that the Voyage of I-hgh School Lxfe was mn realzty to be over four seas although the four bodles of water were so closely Joxned together that they seemed but one xmmense sea He mformed us that we had just entered upon the fn mallest of these whxch was called Freshman Sea We salled over the Freshman Sea and recelved our check of ldentlfxcatlon from the Purser almost before we knew While sa1l1ng on the Sophomore Sea we plcked up a passenger Thls was Delphm Bruhn He came on board from another ship that was saxlmg mn about the same dxrectmon Agam we saxled through wxth flying colors ll , to . . , D u o r ' ' ' ' ' ll II , I I l D I I D I ' l . . . , A ' I I 0 I I U ' . . .
