COMMANDING OFFICER ,' QW? , , , ,A,, 7 S C D R F RA K A G l ORGI 0' A ' . f 43,77 If f,,, ' Frank Arthur Giorgio, Ir., was born in November 1941 in Boston, Massachusetts Q, V and raised in Manchester, Connecticut. I Upon graduation from the University of Hartford in june 1963, he was commis- sioned an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. Aboard the USS CADDO PARISH fLST. 5157, he served as Chief Engineer and Operations Officers. In 1965, he reported to the USS WORDEN IDLG-1Bl as the ASW Officer, From WORDEN, Cdr. Giorgio was ordered to the Destroyer Officer School, Newport, Rhode Island in November of 1966. Afterwards he transferred to the USS NEW IDD-8183 as Weapons Officer until August 1969. He was then as- signed Post Graduate education in the Department of Defense Intelligence curriculum and was later part of Advisory Team 88, Kien Hoa Province, Repub- lic of Vietnam in 1970, After one year there, Commander Giorgio transferred to the Pentagon Office of the Director of Naval Intelligence and served as a Soviet Naval Analyst. In October 1974 he reported to USS VREELAND IFF-10681 as Executive Officer until january 1977 when order to Navy Recruiting District, Houston Texas as Executive Officer. He is presently assigned as Commanding Officer Navy Re- cruiting District, Miami, Florida, after his tour on Schenectady from 1979 to 1981. Commander Giorgio has been awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Navy 4- Commendation Medal with Combat V , the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V , the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation with Palm, and the Vietnamese Psychological Operations Medal, Married to the former Claire M. IOH vv. Ari-iANso USN Commander Athanson was born in Oakland, California. Ile received his BS degree from the California Maritime Academy and commissioned Ensign in june 1963. He served aboard USS ASHLAND ILSD-13 as Navigator and CIC Officer until March 1965. He then reported to USS MORTON IDD-9483 as CIC Officer. In December 1966, Commander Athanson attended the U.S. Naval Destroyer School, Newport, Rhode Island. Upon graduation, he served two years as Engineer Officer aboard USS COCISWELL IDD-6513. He then spent a year with Beach lumper Unit ONE as Officer-in-Charge of Team TWELVE, deployed to the Western Pacific. In lune 1970, he attended the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California, where he received a BA degree in Government flnternational Rela- tionsl. He returned to sea duty in july 1972 as Material Officer, Destroyer Squadron TWENTY-THREE. From 1974 to 1976 Commander Athanson served as Operations Officer, USS PAUL REVERE ILPA-2485, followed by a tour as Executive Officer, USS FREDERICK CLST-11845. In july 1978, he commenced three years of duty as Head, Iranian Sea Programs, then Head, Egyptflsrael Section, Foreign Military Assistance Division in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. Commander Athanson has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V , the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation IC,allantry Cross Medal with palml, Commander Athanson is married to the former Ruth Cody of San Diego.
