Many didn't believe them, some didn't hear them, but, when third period came on Friday, September 22, about 400 students walked out and stood in the parking area waiting for some- thing or just anything to happen. Confusion was apparent from both the protestors and the so-called enemy, the administration. The fire alarm was pulled several minutes later and most of the school emptied. Policemen arrived and students were given a short grace period to return to classes after which the school doors were guard- ed by faculty members and classes resumed under a semi-Marshal Law. In all, three hundred students were suspended. By the following Wednesday all the necessary parent conferences had been held except two and school was back to normal .- The memorable day which was suppose to demand student rights was a dismal failure. Open lunch, one of the points in question, was being discussed on the student council agenda tthe means for pro- per change of board policyl. After the walkout, led by a few self-ap- pointed despots, little had been done to change policy and the ac- tion had certainly left Schaumburg High School with an eye-sore image inthecommunity.
