Even Though they came up on the short end most ofthe time, they gave their opponent a rough fought game. The 1980-81 Schaller Rockets had a very good season with the record of 20-4. They set three preseason goals, first to win conference, second to win the Conference Tournament, and then to go to State. The Rockets lost their first conference game of the season to Wall Lake, so they finished second in the conference. At the Conference Tournament they revenged the earlier loss to Wall Lake and beat them in semifinals. The next night they lost to Pomeroy in the championship game. Sectional play came around and the Rockets blew out a Battle Creek team then met up with Galva- Holstein. The Rockets trailed the whole game but came out on top in the end. Schaller then went on to win Sectionals by defeating Crestland of Early. In District play again the Rockets trailed the whole game by about eight points, but they didn't quit and with a few minutes left, Danny Manteufel put the Rockets ahead for good. In the District finals Schaller took Woodbury Central to advance them to substate. The Rockets led the whole game till the fourth quarter and again ended up on the short end. The boys did fall short in all three of their goals but had one of the most successful seasons on record at Schaller High. f fs, 1 A Rockets End Season Post season awards went Dale Wiese who was named lst Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-Area, and honorable mention Northwest Iowa. Randy Manteufel was named 3rd Team All-Conference, 2nd Team All Area, Kelly Burhop was named 3rd Team All-Conference.
