SHS Welcomes Mami 8: Martin if .. v , 'G M it ti Q, fx ml' 4.1457 ,A i' a ,mga tfet 2 if On August 22, Schaller welcomed Mami Udaka to the community. Mami is originally from Nahoga City, Japan and is residing in the Lyle Martin home while staying here. She has had a busy year taking Family Living, American Government, Algebra II, American Problems, Speech, Typing, Art, Choir and Girls Glee. Mami also was a basketball cheerleader. Her hobbies include bowling, fishing, cooking and listening to re- cords. When asked why she wanted to come here, she commented, to improve my English, and learn and experience American culturef' Mami's memora- ble moments this year included cheerleading, singing, her solo at contests, and graduating with the senior class. She has enjoyed all the people she has met here and also likes the special activities such as Prom and Homecoming. Mami will be here until July 28, at which time she will go back to Japan where she plans to pursue a career in ground service at an airport. We wish her luck in the future and have enjoyed having her with us throughout the year. llif, l T 1 as 5:4 it i it ,fl i ilii T V ff A Martin Edwards Mondaca Santiago arrived in Schaller on Sept. 28, from Chile where he has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. While staying here, he too is residing in the Lyle Martin home. This year Martin is studying American Government, American Problems, English, Speech, Algebra ll, Shop, Typing, and World Histo- ry. Martin's pastimes include learning to play the trumpet and piano, bowling, fishing, tennis, cruis- ing , and playing pinball. He also is on the track team this year. Martin wishes to improve his English and feels the foreign exchange student program will help world peace and understanding. His memorable mo- ments this year include when he spent the day at Duff Brown's by Panora Lake, visiting the uwitchis house , with friends, and taking a trip to California. Martin's future plans are to finish 2 V2 years of high school, then go to college to become a lawyer and be involved in politics. He leaves us with this thought: Schaller is a friendly town and everyone is really nice to me. l'd like to thank all the people in the school especially my teachers for being so nice . We wish Martin the best of luck in the future and thank him for sharing this year with us.
