The first was that of the Iowa Association of Student Councils at Ames. The second was the Northwest District of Student Councils at Buena Vista College, Storm Lake. At the latter meeting, Schaller led a discussion of how high school Student Councils could create more respect for school property. Both meetings were very informative. We also learned ways to im- prove our own Student Council. A few of the projects sponsored by our Student Council this year were: Homecoming celebrationg freshman initiationg the Christmas partyg and the high :school picnic in May. E' 7957 Considerable success was enjoyed by this year's baseball team as they copped the Popcorn Loop championship with a three win no loss record. Thompson and Wiese did most of the pitching for the Rockets, tossing several near no hitters. The season 's record was 9-2, with Lake View handing the team the only regular season loss The team was unable to play a single home game because of difficulties experienced by the new construction taking place in center field. The only other loss was a 5-0 shut-out at the hands of Greenville-Rossie in the opening round of the sub state toumey at Paullina . The team won the sectional and district meets at Washta, defeating Kingsley 12-2 Cushing 3-1, and Grand Meadow 7-4 in the sectional. Hinton fell 6-5 and Smithland 1-0 in the District. Three seniors were on the team: Don Thompson, Paul Wiese and Dick Waterbury. The girls reached the finals of the sectional. This year the Girls' Athletic Union sponsored a summer campaign for the girls and Schaller was able to keep its team intact for the off-year go. Our season ended with a 4-4 record. lt was more successful than the record implies. Statistics show we out-scored our opponents 102-735 had fewer furnblesg fewer yards penalizedg threw seven fewer passes and yet gained 100 yards more by passing. We had a strong defenseg holding our opponents right at the goal line more than once. Offen- sively, wehad a fine passing, kicking and running attack with the quarter back keep or give play working quite effectively, The squad chose Don Johnson and Gilbert Husernan as captains. Paul Wiese was selected s as most valuable player. 7756 S Schaller 6 Lytton Schaller '7 Newell Schaller 0 Lohrville Schaller 25 Dow City Schaller 12 Lake View Schaller O Wall Lake Schaller '7 Early Schaller 45 Galva 30 -4: '-Q' e A A Q mndgndd fm 'W Y w ,QM if: ,. 1 I K I F' qv' 3 1 X, Q Kon Nabo. rhaus ...z ,fi L W3fC1'bUfY Arthur Hase Lacy I ' , fl I L2- rfx - X - EE' T. During football Warren Ehrp, Jean Rasmussen, Bob King, Gwen Andresen, Carol Waterbury, Jerry Woodke, Donald Haselhoff and Judy Howard led our pep rallies and encouraged school spirit and good sportsmenship. The second half an all-girl squad--Beverly Maymon, Nancy Griffin, Barbara Hummel, and Judy Ploeger-- took over, with the help of the Stille twins, Jan and Ann. 3 3 BOTTOM ROW: Barb Barrett, Jan Pyle, Connie Rosdail, Carol Waterbury, Judy Howard, Gwen An- dresen, Jean Rasmussen, Carol Fitmenry. SECOND Marilyn Hogue, Mgr., Judy Brovm, Colleen Blum, Hartgenbush, Beth Whalen. , 1 D'espite the successful win-loss record of this year's Rockettes, it was a some-what disappointing season. Once again Schaller came close to winning the county championship, only to see it slip away. For the most part, the girls depended upon a tough guard court fde- fensive average 45 pointsj to hold down high scoring opponents. With only five letter-winners from the 1955 squad to bolster them, the girls fashioned a forward court combination that averaged a little more than 53 points per game. Forward Carol Fitzsenry carried the bulk of the scoring, just shading post forward Barb Barrett. The final starting forward assignment was very capably handled by Ian Pyle. Judy Howard moved back to post guard, and Connie and Gwen handled the out spots. In addition to the six regulars, Carol Waterbury and Jean Rasmussen played enough to letter. The team was county tournament runnerup. We won 12 games and lost 10, placing second in the county tourney. Our final loss, by two points in an over-time with St. Mary's in the sectional tournament, was a heart-breaker. A big asset to the team this year was Dick Waterbury, who came to us from Ne- maha. Dick averaged 17 points a game. 6414! S Early . . Auburn . . . Hayes ....... Sulphur Springs . . Odebolt ......
