The progressive development of character necessitates contributions from all hi gh school departments. In this combined co- operative endeavor, the role of the athletic department is not IO be minimized. Participation in athletic contests contri- butes toward the growth of the Scecina stu- dent mentally, physically, and morally. Quick decisions, coupled with immediate action, challenge the mental effort the play- ers exert in competitive events. Through many hours of arduous physical exercise, the body of the player is strengthened and trained to serve as an instrument in the complex development of the complete man. Teammates, displaying personal regard for fellow players and opponents, acquire a spirit of Christ-like respect, applicable to associations of later life. Members of various teams learn to accept both victory and defeat maturely, and thus come to the realization that life itself is a combination of both. Spectators, as well as the active partici- pants, are responsible for creating that friendly and wholesome rivalry so frequently witnessed at inter-school games. This spirit of co-operation among team members, fac- ulty, and student body, has served to de- velop a Scecina school spirit which is treas- ured and valued by all.
