The first Friday of each month the entire student body participates in Holy Mass. Under the careful guidance of Father Cleary We now have a deeper and richer under- standing of this supreme Sacrifice. In con- formity with the revival of liturgical prac- tices, we have complied with the wishes of Pope Pius XII by inaugurating the Offertory Procession. Student Council rep- resentatives from each homeroom carry unconsecrated hosts to the altar where they are received and later consecrated by Father Hoover. Father Hoover offers the Holy Sac- rifice of the Mass, and many Sfll- dents receive spiritual benefits de- rived from this offering. Students receive scapulars and cords as they begin their year of Novitiate as Tertiaries of the Third Order of Saint Francis. First Friday -grim ll ,QI . F115 !!li,5 As each representative brings his offering to the altar, the student body participates by singing, To jesus Christ, Our Sovereign King. Third rder Devotion to St. Francis of Assisi is intensified by the St. Michael Confraternity, the Scecina Chapter of the Third Order of St. Francis. The Third Order is an organization of Tertiaries who are the co-workers of St. Francis. The purpose and goal of this organization is to do the work of St. Francis, which consists in helping the poor, being friends to the friendless, visiting the sick, and performing charitable works. These Tertiaries are not only serving God but are also spirit- ually aiding themselves by imitating their model, St. Francis of Assisi. i 4 S R MI ri gl

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, celebrated by Father Hoover, opens the day of prayer and recollection, Attending lectures and reading spiritual literature are important activities on the daily schedule. Devout meditation awakens the sincere student to the realization of the role Christ plays in his life. Spiritual conferences given this year by Reverend Richard Madden, proved inspirational to all. Benediction of the Blessed Sacra- ment closed this day of spiritual rejuvenation. Reverend Richard Madden closes the retreat by giving the Papal Blessing. Bill Bokerman, Orgmzift, shares intimately in the Mass by ac- companying the students in their hymns of praise to God. - - -----N -s
