Dedc'caZ6cwz MOST of us deck-swabbers don't know the Ad- miral as well as we'd like to. Fact is, we hardly ever see him ofhcially except at the first assembly of the year . . . andiwe can't think of anyone who can soften the blow of returning to school better than Dr. Smith. We like the Way he beams all over when he talks and makes us feel right at home. We were reminded recently that the present senior class is the first to have spent its entire high school career in the present S.H.S. facilities, which were en- larged to include the cafeteria and auditorium, largely through the efforts of Dr. Smith, back in 1940. One other thing we can say of the Admiral, that he doesn't even know himself, is that the inspiration of this year's BANDY came distinctly from his direction. Back at that first September assembly, he said some- thing about all of us setting out on a voyage of dis- covery lasting from September to june. We can't guar- antee the exact Wording at this distance, with home port clearly in sight, but the idea is intact. If you'll accept our apologies, Dr. Smith, for any- thing unexpected that happened to your theme as we put it on paper, we'd like to make the book yours, too.
