Some of their things are looking at an amoeba in biology or taking a trip to the li-1 brary to do their book reports. Some stu-1 dents may have the pleasure of working in the school store with Mr. Blount. Others may go after the Spartan of the Year award by working out on the football team. Also we have Mrs. Morgan with her oil painting class, i 4 along with Mr. Gabriel's construction crewl which built its own greenhouse. The squad has at- tended tournaments in New Braunfels, Beaumont, and New Orleans in the past. They outdid themselves this year when twelve contestants were sent to the Mira Costa High School Mustang She- bang in Manhattan Beach, Cali- fornia, a suburb of Los Angeles. When not at the tournament, the students enjoyed going to the beach and Disneyland, and seeing the sights of Los Angeles. The people who went to California were Beth Ballard, Sherry Cooper, Leigh Ann Haggard, Tina Linke, Marian Linscomb, Mark Loranc, Phylis McKinley, Michelle Monse, Mari Moore, Dawn Newcomer, Maureen Pippen, Ted Smith, and Penny Johnson, sponsor. The yearbook would like to thank Mark Monse for printing these pictures. X x .vw .. b A- ' Q ' - wp , gp., ' ,A 1 'mn .FA1-qf,fmwQ.,. . - , . . . . Q - ws 3- . . ' -xx . Susan Ong is shown here with the pecan tree that was planted in 1869 by her great-uncle. The metal stake was used to hang goats, cows, and sheep for butchering. When the tree, which had been growing next to the house, grew too big, the house was moved farther hack, thus allowing the tree to grow. The large tree always provided a bountiful crop of pecans. The tree is on what is now Scarborough's campus. Speech Trophy inners Dawn Newcomer won the ,.. 1-. first place trophy in prose and poetry reading at the R.E. Lee HS. speech tour- nament. It was kind of slow getting started, but after we found a publisher we really had to work. Each day we worked on our layouts, some of us just starting and the rest finishing. Of course there were other things to get done, such as book work, taking pictures, and printing pic- tures. Yearbook editor isn't all work, though, it is really a blast. .,-x THE 1974 E K, wb VVQV :,,. M. It has also given me a great re- spect toward the faculty and my fellow students, all making Scarborough very meaningful to me. There were a lot of oth- ers who worked hard to make a good yearbook so that in the future you may look back through the pages and see some of your happiest moments. My only regret is that I am a senior this year and Won't be able to come back to work on it next year. It was a lot of fun. Q, if -...7 f - H, tx 3 1 1 '0nqg..!, .
