At a formal prom two teen-age boys, Randy and Buzz, concoct the idea of promoting the daughter of a big- tiine business man in whose company they hope to land jobs. They get Randys family to invite the girl, Flora, to their summer home, and by constant coaching and advertising give her a build-up and air of mystery. Tex Arlan, a famous band leader, arrives at the near-by hotel and is so constantly mobbed by swoon- ing bobby-soxers that he seeks refuge in the com- pany of Flora whose interest in the opposite sex is still bound up in her father. Flora and Tex disappear by plane together-the one to deliver a birthday cake to her father and the other to convince his fiancee that the newspaper reports of his romance with Flora are a publicity stunt of her young promoters. CLASS This years junior class is an amazingly versatile group. They have contributed generously to all sports and other activities. Many boys on the football. basketball. baseball. cross-country and track teams were juniors. The V. teams, too, owe much of their success to the juniors. The girls also made their mark in athletics and be- came high-ranking members ot' the girls' sports groups. Major positions on The Bfollw' staff were held by juniors, and they were justly proud of the advance- ment of The Blvffer from fourth to third place in competition with many time school papers. Only the utmost cooperation between the staff members and their sponsor made it possible. -. Af' QE '50 Teamwork and perseverance made the annual junior Prom a grand success both socially and tinan- cially. The Class ot' '30 is well on its way to permanent possession ot, the Class Night banner. As sopho- mores they took an undisputed first place in this event. and this year they tied with the seniors for first place. Their theme was Adx'ertisements . Their parade included a penguin, a camel, a cow, an Oldsmobile, and many other advertising symbols, all tagged with junior resourcefulness. Surely this high-geared class. continuing in its co- operative ways, will become next years seniors with great glory. - CLASS CDF UFFI P I Y . . '51 The Class of 'Sl reached the half-way mark in june, 1949, having established quite a record for themselves. In all sports they were well represented. Many of the boys played with the V. teams, and several earned places on the varsity teams. The girls showed their good sportsmanship in their many games of hockey, soccer, basketball, volley ball and soft ball. The V. cheering squad consisted almost entirely of our enthusiastic sophomore girls. Although they had to be satisfied with a mere second place. they received many line compli- ments on the way they carried out their interesting theme which was heartily enjoyed by all present. All extra-curricular activities had a generous share of sophomores, and to prove that they could combine work and play, they had the distinction of having more names on the honor roll than any of the other classes. The sophomores now look forward to their junior year with a feeling of accomplishment, and they are confident of their ability to continue the good work. 1, , v V I 3 CLASS QQ 5 .- 'f ' HI I ll'I R9 Y VI Iilvlli illllrcll RL Ill Nl 4 IJI'c'sllIf'lll . The Purple and Gold won 9 events-shot-put, discus, 100, 220, 440, 880, hurdles, high jump and pole vault. These were taken by Williaiiison, Horvath, Nagy, Boniberger, Ackerley, Broere, Goode, Stoll and Vanderborgh, respectively. A Sayville relay of Nagy, Boniberger, Broere and Wiiies won in a fast time of 1.375 Next week Sayville and Northport visited Babylon and Sayville easily defeated both teams, Nagy winning 100 and 220, Ackerley winning 880, Williaiiison and Horvath in shot-put and discus. There was a Van Wfyen and Passerb tie for pole vault and a five-way tie in Sayville for high jump. The same relay team ran a good race on a poor track in 1585. Lindenhurst at Sayville was postponed because of rain, and then definitely cancelled. Amity visited Sayville and a fairly close contest was run. Nagy duplicated his feat of two wins, Boniberger won the 440 and Ackerley the 880, Powlowicz and Carpino took second and third in discus, and Williafiison and l-lorvath took first and second in shot-put. The relay again ran a good race, and Sayville pulled out front in point scores. Then the two-mile, one-mile and hurdle relay teams went to Babylon for the County Relays and against tough competition Nagy, Boniberger, Acker- ley and Kenyon took first in the mile, Wines, Allen, Broere, and Swamback took first in hurdles and Seer- veld, Conkle, Ravenhall, and Cvradisher took third in the two mile. Coach Case inaugurated the idea of a field event carnival in Sayville. Sayville in the discus with Carpino, Pawlowicz and Horvath won easily over Patchogue, the nearest contender. In the shot- put Port jefferson won and Sayville came in second with Nagy, Eller and Williaiiison. In the pole vault Sayville, with the Van XVyens and Buys, tied for second. Stoll, Vander Borgh and Bonhote finished second in high jump, but the Sayville broad jump team finished last. At the Island Relays, Sayville's same mile relay team took first place and with it a track trophy. Hun- tington visited Sayville and was outscored as Sayville took ten tirst places and several seconds and thirds. Nagy and Horvath won two events, Nagy the sprints and Horvath the weights. Boniberger took the 440 and Ackerley the 880. Then Sayville, Port jefferson, and Bay Shore visited Patchogue and Sayville set them all down after a tight meet with Nagy taking sprints, Boniberger the 440 and Stoll the broad jump. This meet gave Sayville the Section One Champion- ship. A week afterwards, on a rainy Saturday, Sayville failed to overthrow Riverhead by four points. Nagy won two medals for the first in the 100 and 220, Boniberger won the -1-10, Van Wfyen the pole vault, Carpino and l-lorvath second and third in shot-put, and l-lorvath third in the discus. Ackerley placed third in the 880, and Wines third in hurdles. The hill and dale men of Sayville High opened their 1948-49 cross country season with a victory over South Huntington. The harriers accumu- lated a low of 27 points. Our first man in was jim - Conkle, second, Bill Swamback was forth, Bernard sixth, Charles Conkle seventh, and Gradisher eighth. One week later, the Purple and Gold traveled to Bellport, but lost in a very close meet of 28-27. jim Conkle, Ravenhall, Swamback, Benard and Yonda finishing in second, third, seventh, eighth and ninth spots, respectively. The next week Sayville went to Bay Shore only to be beaten. The first four places were taken by Bay Shore. jim Conkle placed fifth, Ravenhall sixth, Swamback Seventh, Bernard ninth, Yonda eleventh. In a three-way meet at Patchogue the linal tally was Port jefferson 19, Sayville -ii, and Patchogue 65. 'lim Conl-cle again ran his race by placing second but was closely followed by tive Port jeffersonians. The County Meet was copped by Southampton with Riverhead second, Port jefferson third, Bay Shore fourth and Sayville fifth. Ravenhall placed 13, jim Conkle 18, and Swamback 22.
