GUIDANCE 1 k • CARMELITA LUCITT Seton Hall University, M.A. Guidance Chairman The most important problem facing the high school student is what he is going to do in the future. Prepara- tion for the future begins in high school. The function of the Guidance Department is to help each student analyze and appraise his own abilities, aptitudes, and values and to select a suitable educational program in the light of this self-appraisal. The student is then en- couraged to develop to his maximum capacity in accord with his needs, interests, and goals. Complete develop- ment of each student must take place on a social level as well as an academic one. The Guidance Department, by encouraging the student to expand socially as well as intellectually, aids in the development of a well-rounded individual. DANIEL H. NEWCOMER Rutgers University, M.Ed.
