CATHERINE LUDLOW B.A. WALTER KAWALEC B.A. VIJA HAZNERS B.A. GENEVIEVE AVERY M.A. ETHEL BELGARD B.A. FOREIGN LANGUAGE Four foreign languages—Latin, French, German, and Spanish—are taught to students through the audio- lingual approach to language learning. This method is based on the principle that foreign language assimilation follows the basic patterns by which we learn our own language: hearing, repeating, reading, and writing. The first course familiarizes the student with elemen- tary rules of grammar through the use of dialogues. The second year increases vocabulary by means of reading, discussion, and written work. Third and fourth courses allow the student to read literary works and discuss them as well as write creatively about them. 13
