During his first two years, the student becomes acquainted with various types of literature, including mythology, poetry, and prose. Various periods and authors of American literature are covered during the junior year in addition to a short course of grammar. English IV is concerned with the development of literature and drama, with accent on the authors, periods, people, and culture of England. CHARLES D. Echo-Lites Advisor Guidance Counselor FOREIGN LANGUAGE In past years, Sayreville offered three foreign lan- guages to students—French, Spanish, and Latin. This year German has been introduced into the curriculum with much success. The student studies the language itself, its origin, the country where the language is spok- en, and the culture of the people. The second year of- fers a more detailed study of grammar with more em- phasis on conversation. Advanced study in French, Spanish, and Latin are devoted mainly to becoming more proficient in the use of the foreign languages. CATHERINE E.
