Members of the graduating class of 1959: As you take your place in the busy life of tomorrow's world, your potentiality cannot be estimated. If the training, the knowledge, and various abilities of your class and those graduating from our high schools each year could be confined within the territory of the Tussey Mountain Joint Schools for the rest of your lives, the contribution you could make to the progress of this community would be without limit. I must remind you that there will be a difference between your latent ability and your achievement in life. To make your great potentialities become achievements you must work. You did not enter the Tussey Mountain Joint Schools and do twelve years of work, so that you could go through life in a leisurely manner. Society's purpose in giving you an education was to teach you how to work more effectively. I hope that you have achieved this goal. Ralph Waldo Emerson, the great American poet and philosopher, said, Labor is God's education. He only is a sincere learner; he only becomes a master who learns the secret of labor. It does not matter whether you go to col- lege, whether you enter business, or what you select for a career, it is the amount of work you do that will determine your success. Harry H. Alcorn Supervising Principal ration At the present approximately 525 students are attending the Saxton Liberty Junior-Sen- ior High School. Each student is an individual entirely different in every respect from all the others, in fact different from all living species. Aside from your spiritual welfare your individuality should be your most vital concern. Many ideas and practices about which you have studied are universally accepted as worthwhile. These you will accept, bene fitting from the experiences of those who lived be- fore you. Today, there is a growing trend in society to conform. Total acceptance of this idea will mean the eventual disappearance of in- dividual expression. Individuality is the es- sence of democracy. With it we make pro- gress and survive; without it we degenerate and die. Your teachers and I hope very much that the time spent with us has provided oppor- tunities for self development and self ex- pression. G. Allen Hoover Principal
