cuss history PILGRIMS TO THE PROMISED LAND OF 1956 Long ages it seems, but by calendar count it is somewhat less than four years since a band of eager, earnest pilgrims gathered to start on their long and hazardous way together to the Promised Land of 1956. One Hundred and twenty three of them were there on that momentous September morning back in 1952, and they called themselves the class of i956--taking this name from the fact that was the year they were supposed to graduate. Strangers, those 1952 freshmen seem to us now, but it was indeed we who start- ed out that day on the pilgrimage that will end for us soon. Somewhat excitedly we be- gan that freshman year. Adjustments had to be made. By the end of the first month we were pretty well settled down to the years work. Early in the year we elected the fol- lowing class officers: President-Neal Roberts, Vice President-Jacob Livingston, Histo- rian-Faye Barton, Treasurer-Audrey Drenning, Secretary-Marlene Black. Our class advisers were Mr. Brumbaugh, Miss Winnick, and Mrs. Carbaugh. September, 1953, found us ready and anxious to resume our pilgrimage. We were experienced travelers, now on the educational journey. Well acquainted with perils of our itinerary, we were on our guard against them. Delay in completing tasks assigned, indolence, and the habit of taking a chance all these, we knew, led straight to disaster for pilgrims like ourselves seeking to reach the mecca of graduation. Our class advisers, Mr. Shoenfelt, and Mrs. Carabaugh met in the gym with us and we elected the following officers: President-Jacob Livingston, Vice President-David No- testine, Historian-Wayne Rockey, Treasurer-Doris Gail Frye, Secretary-Marlene Black.
