Most of the members of the class seem to me to have learned many of the things that tend to make individuals good citizens. You study well, play hard, and have learned to conform to the rules of school discipline. However, now that you are ready to leave school for the larger work-a-day world, I hope that you will be able to raise your sights above the level of covering ground in a textbook, above the level of learning just to pass an examination, and getting by, and above the idea of schooling as something to go through and leave behind on Commencement Day. We at Saxton-Liberty would like to think that we may in some small way have contributed to your preparation for living. Harvey A. Davis Supervising Principal You, the graduating class of 1956, are entering a world where so much, including your very lives, is based almost wholly on some aspect of Science. Undoubtedly, during the remaining years of your lives. Science will bring such miraculous changes that life as you knew it in the Saxton-Liberty High School (1952 -1956) will seem antiquated. On the other hand, Science will never replace or be a worthy sub- stitute for the lasting friendships de- veloped by you among both the stu- dents and teachers in our high school. Realizing that such things as these are eternal, you should always keep in contact with your Alma Mater and visit it when convenient. G. Allen Hoover High School Principal MRS. JOSEPH ZELANKO School Secretary MRS. ALBERT MASOOD School Nurse T1 )R. C. L. ISENBERG chool Physician MR. WILSON GATES Faculty Manager The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athlet- ic Association (PIAA), requires written contracts, in duplicate, for each athletic contest held be- tween schools. Certified athletic officials must also be employed by contract. This work is done months in advance in order that schedules may be prepared to inform the public. Accident insurance is carried on each player in case of injury to a contestant during a practice session or scheduled game. This assures proper medical services to an injured player. Prior to each contest the Athletic Mana- ger notifies the visiting school as to names and addresses of the officials designated, price of admission, uniform colors, and other informa- tion pertinent to the contest. The Faculty Manager is treasurer of the School Athletic Council. This organization consists of school board members. Supervising Principal, Principal, and athletic coaches. As treasurer, he handles all financial matters per- taining to the school athletic program. DR. One Hundred and twenty three of them were there on that momentous September morning back in 1952, and they called themselves the class of i956--taking this name from the fact that was the year they were supposed to graduate. Strangers, those 1952 freshmen seem to us now, but it was indeed we who start- ed out that day on the pilgrimage that will end for us soon. Somewhat excitedly we be- gan that freshman year. Adjustments had to be made. By the end of the first month we were pretty well settled down to the years work. Early in the year we elected the fol- lowing class officers: President-Neal Roberts, Vice President-Jacob Livingston, Histo- rian-Faye Barton, Treasurer-Audrey Drenning, Secretary-Marlene Black. Our class advisers were Mr. Brumbaugh, Miss Winnick, and Mrs. Carbaugh. September, 1953, found us ready and anxious to resume our pilgrimage. We were experienced travelers, now on the educational journey. Well acquainted with perils of our itinerary, we were on our guard against them. Delay in completing tasks assigned, indolence, and the habit of taking a chance all these, we knew, led straight to disaster for pilgrims like ourselves seeking to reach the mecca of graduation. Our class advisers, Mr. Shoenfelt, and Mrs. Carabaugh met in the gym with us and we elected the following officers: President-Jacob Livingston, Vice President-David No- testine, Historian-Wayne Rockey, Treasurer-Doris Gail Frye, Secretary-Marlene Black. September, 1954, found us resuming our journey on much higher ground as Jun- iors. Every stop of the way meant much more effort now. Every foot of our advance had to be earned by constructive work. Our pilgrimage had to become a serious busi- ness. During the football season we helped with selling refreshments at the home games. We got our class rings this year. We all hold them as our most valuable pos- session. In honor of the Seniors the Juniors had the Junior and Senior Prom. Our class officers this year were: President-Ronald Carnell, Vice President-Jacob Livingston, His- torian-Edna Folk, Secretary-Andrea Cimbalista, Treasurer-Barbara Patterson. It was with more than a little misgiving that in September 1955, we roused our- selves from the pleasant, comfortable lethargy of summer vacation and resumed our pilgrimage once more. Class advisers this year were: Mr. Treasurer, Mr. Shoenfelt, and Mr. Phillips. Class Officers were: President-Ronald Carnell, Vice President- Ed- ward Reed, Secretary-Norma Wright, Historian-Anna McIntyre, Treasurer-Barbara Pat- terson. Unwavering and unfaltering we must make our way right to the very tip of its highest pinnacle--known as Graduation Summit. If we reach there within the time al- lowed, we shall have succeeded in our pilgrimage. CUSS PROPHECY In i960 we started a tour of the United States. Starting with our own state Pennsylvania. We boarded a plane at Martinsburg and who was the pilot? None other than Kenneth Lewis and co-pilot Jacob Livingston. On our flight we found out that Linda Lynn was the stewardess. While visiting in New Hampshire we heard that Kent Markley and Sandra McCahan had recently been married. While shopping for a dress, who waited on us but, Anna McIntyre and her assistant Annette Mellott. We met Mary Miller who was returning to her W. A. C. regiment at Massachusetts. She told us Patty Miller and Gaylord Morgan were also stationed there. We then toured New Hampshire and Maine stopping to see our old friends Barb- ara Patterson and James Mort. We went on to New York City and visited the Palace Theater, where Helen Davis and David Notestine were guest stars. We were passing by one of the theatres and whose name did we see on the billboard but, Treva Rouser and Jack Putt starring in the Wild West. Flying over Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virgin- ia into North Carolina, we saw David Ramsey and Edward Reed, who were stationed at the army base there. They told us that James Smith was chaplain. Boarding the train in North Carolina we passed through the sandy states of South Carolina into sunny Florida where we saw Anna Marie Seager, Betty Tenley, Jolene Williams, Catherine Workman and Norma Wright participating in the Miss Universe Beauty Contest. While in Florida we visited Miami Beach where we met Joan and Phyllis Shaffern swimming. They told us Richard Snyder was the life guard. Going through Alabama into Mississippi we saw Dorothy Allison, Eleanor Black and Marlene Brown on the Mississippi Show Boat. Passing through Tennessee and Kentucky into In- diana we heard that Andrea Cimbalista and John Burkett were on their honeymoon. We went into Michigan and visited the Ford Plant owned by Ronald Carnell and his wife, the former Janet Brindle. While visiting the plant we decided to buy an automobile. We then traveled to Wisconsin where we visited Tom Donelson and Carol Fore- man operating a dairy farm. We stopped in at a motel which was run by Shirley Brum- baugh and Ruby Mort; then we spent a few days in Minnesota and Iowa. In Arkansas we met Ruthann Hucosky and Joe Hile operating the famous Wrangler Hotel. We trav- eled through Louisiana into Texas, where we saw Bernice Weyandt, Esti Ann Zerbe and Florine Thomas participating in the rodeo. Going into Missouri we stopped at the auto- mobile insurance agency where Bobby Spencer and Alton Stapleton were the head sales- men. We traveled from Missouri into Kansas where we visited some of the famous wheat fields. At one of them Ronald Thompson and Richard Warsing were field bosses. We also met William Wheeler and James Weaver in Kansas and brought them as far as Oklahoma where they now reside. In Mexico we watched two interesting matadors, Blair Stever and Donald Tenley, recently arriving from United States. We also found Shelia Williams and Meade Barnett were working at one of the famous Mexican Ranches. Going on up and into Colorado we visited the Grand Canyon. We entered a scouting 32 party of which Rodney Amick, George Bennett and Carson Brown were the guides. Leav- ing the Grand Canyon we stopped at the souvenir stand. There we saw Shirley Edwards, Janet Kegarise, and Carol Barber selling souvenirs. Going into Nebraska we had car trouble. We stopped at a garage, where Frank Fox and Richard Hess were the mechan- ics. Taking a bus through South Dakota and North Dakota into Montana we stopped at the beauty parlor owned by Doris Dell and Blanche Clawson.
