:ardinal baseball begins ... Pitcher Lance Johnson Under the excellent coach- ing of Ted Dettmer, the Sa- voy High School Cardinal Baseball Team won the re- gional championship and was one of only eight Dis- trict A schools in tne state of Texas to advance into the quarter-finals of the state playoffs. The team excelled in excel- lence and began a winning tradition that will continue at Savoy High. Even though baseball may not have the fan following of the other sports, the 1986 Cardinal Baseball Team is highly respected and their outstanding accomplish- ments should be remem- bered for years. Probably the most out- standing memory of the baseball season is the team's wild rally to score 7 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning in area play against Avery to win area with a 13-12 score. “Hats Off to Lance Johnson who hit the unbelievable win- ning homerun in that game, bottom of the 7th, with 2 outs, and with the tieing run on 1st. “Hats Off to Coach Dettmer and the entire Cardinal team for their outstanding sea- son. We are all proud of the 1986 Cardinal Baseball Team. Congratulations!
