We Are Making History Cardinal ’85 An Era in Savoy I.S.D. History Draws to a Close 1985 marked the end of a long association for the Savoy School District. This was the final year in a long career for Superintendent Robert F. Hodges and his wife and secretary, Mrs. Tommy Hodges. These two in- dividuals have been instrumental in the operation of Savoy for many years, and their shoes will be difficult for anyone, no matter how qualified, to fill. Mr. Hodges has set high standards of academics and principles for the schools and community of Savoy. Mrs. Hodges has displayed expert business skills along with hospitality, kindness, and 'consideration for all those around her. They will leave behind many memories and friends in the halls of Savoy School. It is in their honor that we dedicate this, the 1985 Cardinal. Mr. Robert F. Hodges, 1963-1985 fln fHemory o! Valencia ©itsuiortlj This year Savoy School and the community itself were touched by the loss of Valencia Titsworth. It came quickly and without warning, leaving all who had known Valencia shaken. She left behind friends, playmates, and teachers who will never forget the beautiful young girl with the special qualities that she had. May this help serve as a reminder to all at Savoy what a treasure was lost to us. 4 Table of Contents Classes 31 Organizations 53 Athletics 63 Favorites 87 Homecoming Celebrated by All The new year began in a busy way. New teachers were added to the staff, new classes were added to the schedule, and everyone was thrown into confu- sion by the new rules and regulations. So the ac- tivities of homecoming week provided a welcome break for all. Aren't we cool! Savoy celebrates homecoming with a bonfire. What's Marvin up to? Many students participate in 50's Day. But I thought we couldn't have parties during class. The class of '55 invades Savoy High. 6 Halloween Is a Money-Maker Jody looks interested. Jeremy is having problems with the management. What's so funny, Gu$? Mr. Newell finishes another meal. Pam works hard for taco supper. Todd and Travis look really busy. Willie is actually cleaning up. Todd and Gordon do their best to boost the crowd’s spirit. A Touch of Brazil Comes to Savoy Kai Detlev Quarck Kai Quarck came to Savoy High School in the fall of 1984 as an ex- change student from Brazil. Once here, Kai became active in almost every phase of student life. He became a member of the BETA club, played on the Junior Varsity Basketball team, was elected F.H.A. Beau, took part in all of the Senior Class activities, and was elected Friendliest by the stu- dent body. Perhaps this title best ex- plains the gift that Kai brought to Savoy and left behind when the year was finished. His warm, cooperative and friendly personality made him a favorite among students and teachers alike. Kai, we would like to dedicate this page to you in honor of all the kind, friendly, and funny moments you brought to Savoy High School. We'll miss you.
