They decided to have football as a school sport, which we thank them for. We all know that these men take the time to discuss school programs and funds out of their own time. There were several award winners this year for various foods and crafts. Savoy FHA Chapter won first place for their exhibit at the Area VI FHA Meeting in Tyler. They also raised $250 for the March of Dimes by selling magazines. They raised money to contribute to the fund for the National FHA building in Reston, VA. The Cardinals began the '81 football season at the base of a high mountain, Mount Inexperience. The mountain was too high to be scaled without discipline, preparation, deter- mination, and hard work. The seniors coined the word tougherance from tough and perseverance to exemplify the quality of Carnidal Spirit. With the Senior Class of '82 leading the way, the Cardinals began the arduous climb. We have not reached the top of the mountain, yet, but we are no longer at the bottom looking up. Rather, we are part way up the mountain and continually looking up. Coach John C. Miller A. Even though they didn't play a full schedule, the squad managed to win consolation in our own tour- nament. It was a task which con- sisted of beating two Varsity ball clubs. We are proud to know that we have some people with poten- tial who are not afraid to take it to anyone. They attended camp at ETSU and won 3 spirit sticks and 8 ribbons. They did an ex- cellent job cheering for the foot- ball and basketball teams. They helped build up spirit in the fans. James Allen vC Students Participate In October, the Fannin County Fair was held. On Friday, Savoy High spent half a day at the fair. Savoy had several contestants. There were several awards won in the livestock, craft, and cooking divisions. On Friday there was a parade. There were several floats from Savoy. The cheerleaders and FHA officers participated in the parade. On Saturday night, Kim Wag- goner won third runner up in the Fannin County Queen Contest. 78 A. Are you speaking to me? 81 HOWL-O-WHN 82 On the eve of October 29th Savoy High had its's annual Carnival and Coronation to raise money for the classes. During the week there were bake sales, suppers, and chances sold. Elementary had cake walks, bingo and Dip-a-Duck. The Junior High and High School had different booths set up. There was lots of money raised. The Sophomores had a jail in which the resisting Mr. Newell was placed. It was lots of fun. The Seniors won the Queen's Race with a little more than $900. We visited the Ken- nedy Space Center and saw the space shuttle. We spent a few days at Daytona Beach. After a week together, some were ready to come home.
