The 1980 Savoy Cardinal We’re Busy People Just Like You So Watch Out World — We’re Coming Through! Dedication David “Doc” Price We the 1980 Cardinal Annual Staff are proud to Dedicate our Annual to Mr. David Doc Price. Mr. Price has taught school for 28 years, in which 27 of those years he has taught at Savoy as Agriculture Teacher. Mr. Price is a devoted Christian man. He has spent many hours of his free time to help the students. He is a man that every guy would like to pattern their lives after. He lives a very busy life. He is a member of the Lions Club, also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also chosen Teacher of the Year” not only at Savoy High, but also for the Fannin County District of TSTA. 9 FFA Members Everyone, especially the FFA members, looks forward to the annual Fannin County Fair, which was held October 18,19, and 20. It takes a lot of hard work to get cattle ready, and build shop projects, but it usu- ally pays off. We are proud to have these people not only to represent Savoy, but also themselves. Mary Alice Allred stands for judgment. Get your legs together! I know it is under here somewhere. Favorite Pastime I'll be there in a minute. Where have the judges gone? Which one is in the contest? Many people participated in the livestock show. Mary Alice and Jimmy Allred showed charlois calves. Jimmy Wrenn, Billy Don Burks, and Gregg Hodge showed Santa Gertru- dis bulls. Larry Williams showed a brahma-Santa Ger- trudis crossbreed. I finally got him still. Fannin County Fair Participants Get Involved! There were many hours of work put into the shop projects shown by FFA members, which paid off. The FFA members and their spon- sor “Doc” Price spent a lot of time getting ready for the fair. Connie Thurman represented Savoy by running for Fannin County Queen. The Beta Club also took part in the fair by running a booth. This was the first year for our Beta Club to participate in the Fannin County Fair. The FFA members won first place on their trailer ■'Doc Price inspects shop projects. Connie Thurman rides in style. Amy Francis forgot the words to the song. Cowgirl of the day. Phyllis Moore learns how to lead a bull. Off to the races! It is rest time again! 13 The week of October 22-27, 1979 was filled with excite- ment. Everyone really worked hard. It took a lot of planning and teamwork to make each and every project come out successful. Halloween Horror! Carl and Larry will help you win a prize by throwing darts at the balloons. Our Superintendent Mr. Robert F. Hodges Mr. Hodges is the superintendent of our school. He is a very hard- working man. Although he doesn’t receive the credit that he deserves for all of the special things he does for the students, he is very much appreciated. His job consists of many things; we could never begin to pin-point them down to a special job. He is always around to lend you a helping hand. Meet Our Principal Mr. Jerry Newell We have a new face in our school system this year. It is the principal, Mr. Jerry Newell. He also teaches woodwork and drafting. He has a very busy schedule, but in his spare time he works as a farmer. A Helpful Person to Everyone, Mrs. Tommy Hodges Mrs. Tommy Hodges is the secretary of our school. She is a very hard-working lady. Her job consists of many different types of things. She is always willing to help the students in any way she can. There is one special thing about her that we all love, and that is her loving smile. 19 Board Members Working Just look at our school board members! They are hard-work- ing men who devote a lot of their free time to make our school a better place. These men work hard to solve the problems that they receive from the students here at SHS. We’re The Best And That’s No Maybe, We’re The Class of “1980” 105 Seasons in the Sun Being a Senior is special. For most, it is an event-filled year, a time to finish school, and a time to plan for the future. Seniors jokingly kid about being plagued by senioritis,” an affliction that makes study- ing almost impossible and school unbearable. But we remember all of the fun times we have had, and all of the friends we have made. Most seniors will even confess that they have learned something and that they have grown up a lot through their high school years. Phyllis Lankford gave the Welcome address Michelle Jackson presented the Class Will. Steven Moore gave the Invocation. 106 Epperson Kathy Hawk presents the Acceptance of Dip- lomas Speech. Tony Rash is finally getting to tell Mr. Dettmer what he really things about the whole thing. 107 The 1980 graduating Seniors came back a tired group after five days of continuous sight- seeing. The Seniors left Savoy at 4:00 a m. on June 1. They travelled through Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. One of the main stops on the way up was Booger Hollow, Arkan- sas population 7, including one coon dog. The Seniors stayed in Branson for three nights and attended the Bald Knobbers Hillybill Jamboree, went to Sil- ver Dollar City, saw The Shep- herd of the Hills play, and bought every kind of T-shirt available. From Branson they went to Eureka Springs, Arkan- sas and spent their last night there. On Friday June 6 they started heading back to Savoy. They had a great time and it will always be remembered. Trip Climaxes notior rjj ARKANSAS POPULATION COUNTEN ONE COON DOG Contestants for the Booger Hollow beauty contest!! Cheer up Kathy, we re almost home. Mary Ricker is mad again. Mrs. McDaniel — mechanic? Where did they get all that money? 108 The Senior Year Moose Downs takes up a collection for under-privileged Seniors. “What is Mr. Dettmer grinning about? Kenny Burks waits impatiently. LuAnn is undoubtedly having sweet dreams of Benny. 109 Most of the Seniors came back with more money than they took. They spent their money wisely and had a good time. During the trip they bought souvenirs, apple cider, and a lot of food. They stayed at Paramount Motor Lodge in Branson, Missouri, and at the Best Western Swiss Inn in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Seniors Enjoy Trip Activities What are those girls up to now? Hand it to me now!! I am really amazed! Bathing beauties? “What is Mike waiting for?” 110 It’s domino time again. Look what I found! Principals never tell the truth. If only OUR guys were here!! Carl Bowhay tries to walk on water. A rest stop in the mountains. Looks as if they had a paper party Gus Purdy hits the target. Ill The Seniors did many things on their trip, including riding in a helicopter. Some of the girls (women) even went shopping at Wal-Mart. They went swim- ming, and rode a water slide. They were on the go every min- ute of the trip, and they had a great time. Looks like this bunch is tired. Anyone need a coffin? Steven Moore samples the Missouri water What are Michelle and LuAnn doing now?
