The Freshmen start the day off by giving each other an oatmeal facial. The Eighth Graders play pool together. The Sophomores try to keep each other clean. The Seniors are always cleaning, especially burnt chicken. The Juniors are always making jokes at the other classes. With all these classes working together, SHS remains in a happy order. We Had Fun at the Geraldine McLarry stands with his calf. Troy Waggoner and Leslie Bassham are enjoying a chat with their The Fannin County Fair is always looked forward to each year. For the first time, the FFA and FHA entered a float in the annual parade. Shirley Hazelwood and Curtis Riggen rode the float as representa- tives for the organizations. Many members of each organ- ization entered projects and cows for the judged competi- tion, Vicky Hazelwood entered in the Fannin County Queen's Contest and was first runner-up. Savoy was well represented at the Fannin County Fair this year! 12 The Sophomores really enjoyed the fair. Fannin County Fair! Penny Ballard is taking flying lessons. The Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors entered crafts and baked goods at the fair. Mike Corzine proves he can ride the bucking barrel Shirley Hazelwood and Jim Sav age pose on the FFA and FHA float. Halloween Courts The annual Halloween Queen race was held this year, and many new money raising projects were seen. There were cake sales, car washes, and food sales. Chances were sold on many different items. The Sen- iors won this year with over two hundred dollars. Andy Hartline crowns Shirley Hazelwood queen of Savoy High. Attendants were John Ricker and Cheryl Robinson, Juniors; Leslie Bassham and Barbara Ricker, Freshmen; Steve Ferguson and Cathy Reynolds, Seventh; Pat McKinney and Gregg Riggen, Eighth; Kem Merworth and Glen Taylor, Sophomores. Attendants were Eric Underwood and Lisa Hazelwood, Kindergarten; David Doan and Kim Waggoner, Fourth; Billy Anderson and Michelle Jackson, Sixth; Brenda Allen and Brian Pugh, Third; Theresa Ricker and Larry Williams, Fifth; Lori Ferguson and Mitch Davis, Second. The Grade School students raised more money than the High School Students. The Grade School held a chili sup- per, bingo game, and a wom- anless fashion show. There were sales of food, Christmas cards, and chances. The First Grade won the race with an amount over two hundred dol- lars . We, also, would like to thank all mothers and fathers who participated with the money making projects this year. David Corzine sang Miss Savoy High' ’ as Shirley Hazelwood approached. A group of girls sang several songs which added much to the entertainment. Thomas DeBerry was Master of Cer- Janna Mullican was crown bearer, emonies. David Corzine and Vicky Hazelwood contributed greatly to the entertainment. A group of High School girls sang for the Halloween Court. Halloween Entertainment! A group of Savoy witches. My! What has happened to these two girls? Hobos of Savoy High entertain the guests. Boo, I'm a spook! The Halloween Entertainment for the Grade School is half the fun of Halloween. Each year the program is different, and the teachers do a good job in plan- ning the programs. This year songs were sung and poems were recited. Everyone enjoyed watching and laughing at the entertainment. 17 A word of advice! Vicky Hazelwood welcomes the guest. Grade School participants were Sammy Hernandez, Theresa Ricker, Connie Thurman, Tonja Horn, Mary Alice Allred, Teri Lucas, Larry Williams, Joyce Speed, Steve Robinson, Sherry Brooks, Clayton Harp, Michelle Jackson, Steve Moore, Mary Ricker, Kenny Burks, Phyllis Moore, Jackie Reynolds, LuAnn Linder, Dwayne Theobald, and Craig Mullican. These Seventh graders entered in the interscholastic events. Danny Whitlock and Cheryl Robinson went to STATE. 24 The district participants were Peggy Sherrer, Reba Hazelwood, Donna Jackson, Rosemary Caylor, Mike Linder, Donnie Lankford, Ronnie Malone, Cindy Bankston, Barbara Ricker, Mary Kay Barron, Thomas DeBerry, Bobby Lewis, Kathy Simmons, Shirley Burks, and Rita Block. Jimmy Lee Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Reynolds, Sr. was injured in a motorcycle accident May of 1970. Jimmy Lee has a homebound teacher, and he is continuing his education at home and showing much progress. He is able to make frequent trips to the school to see his friends and his teach- ers. Jimmy Lee has been an inspi- ration to all who know him. His courage has helped his class- mates, the Senior Class of 1974, to always smile, to always be happy, to always do their best, and to be thankful for the bless- ings of life. The Beta Club took an active part in the State Convention this year. They kept the concession stand dur- ing the ball games. The Beta Club is planning to run a candidate next year for State Office. Our Beta Club needs more members and there are plenty who can qualify to become members. We hope that the Beta Club grows next year. It looks like food! Help Your Self! This year has been exciting for the Homemaking Department. The girls enjoy a new refrigerator. There were many food labs and just all- around fun. Now what is this! 47 49 Girls9 Junior High Basketball Basketball girls are Karen Hollingsworth, Joanie Barron, Glenda Brooks, Kathy Morris, Cathy Reynolds, Karen Waggoner, Sandra Corzine, Beth Moore, Karla Burris, Susan Whitfield, Charlene Robinson, Pat McKinney, DeLbie Spriggs, Loretha McCannon, Karen Hodges, Diann Anderson, Kathy Godbey, and Coach Dodson. The Junior High girls had a very successful year. The girls entered five tournaments and came home with Five First Place trophies. The girls did not lose any games this year. The Junior High Boys entered five tournaments and won first place in four of these tournaments. They lost only one game all year. The boys did a good job, and we are all proud of them. The Savoy girls won all of their district games this year. They played Tom Bean for bi-district and then advanced to regional play. This year, for the first time, the girls made it to the finals at regional. However, they lost to Como-Pickton by four points. This was one of the biggest let downs in the girls bas- ketball careers. Joyce Steemdan brings the ball to the forwards. 59 The Boys Go to The members of the Savoy team are Rick Baumann, Glen Taylor, Bill Barron, Mickey White, Gerald McLarry, Bobby Lewis, manager, Jerry Reynolds, Mike Linder, Rickey White, Eugene Cross, Ronnie Malone, manager, Donnie Lankford, Coach Jimmy Parish, John Ricker, Leslie Bassham, Larry Bollier, Thomas DeBerry, Tommy Hutchins, and Danny Whitlock. The Savoy boys won nine district games and lost one. They played Aubrey for bi- district and won by one point. This win gave them the honor of playing in the Regional tournament. Ever- yone was very proud of the Savoy boys this year. The managers of the team this year were Jerry Reynolds and Donnie Lankford. 60 Regional Tournament! Tommy Hutchins gets the rebound. D. Hutchins, I. D. Moore, Don Wrenn, Edison Hughes, Bill Steedman, Rob- ert Merworth, and Don Nelms. The school board has probably had one of its hardest years. It has not been an easy job in the past and will not become an easy job in the future. This school board has made the decisions that back our school and made it the school it is. Thank you for making our school a great place. The school board members have a little leisure time to chat before the meeting begins. 80 School Board officers are Secretary, Bill Steedman; President, J. D. Mr. Hodges is the superintendent at Savoy High School. 82 Mr. Ownby is the High School Principal. He enjoys his job very much. Mr. Dickens is the Grade School Principal. He has a very busy schedule and does a good job at everything he does. Mr. Ownby has been at Savoy for three years. Mr. Dickens helps to plan many programs that the Grade School per- forms . 83 Co- Workers Co-Workers are a very impor- tant part of every school. Savoy High School has one of the best staffs of Co-Workers. We have added Teacher's Aides to our staff of Co-Workers this year. Mrs. Eller, Librarian. Mrs. Tommy Hodges is the secretary for Savoy. Mrs. Tidwell is the teacher in the Resource Room. Mrs. Robinson, Nurse. Mrs. Brooks, Teacher’s Aide. Mrs. Ferguson, Teacher's Aide. 84 The Cooks at Savoy are Mrs. Whitlock, Mrs. Hawk, and Mrs. Barron. Mr. Seigler is the school counselor. What would our school be like without Co-Workers? There would be lots of problems unsolved. Thanks to our Co-Workers, we have a good school. The Bus Drivers are Mr. Ownby, Mr. Brannan, and Mr. Morgan. There are many pro- jects that Seniors do to raise money for their Senior Trip. The Seniors had several dinners this year, and no one would want to go through that work again.
