Whether in the class- room, in sports, or in other school activities, you have been an inspiration to us all. Taking the job of advisor for a class that no one else wanted was a big enough task in itself. Then when you volunteered to let the class use your home for the prom party, you really did not know what you were in for. Thank you for everything you have done, and con- gratulations Mr. Uttl 1 I X l 7 A Xen o! S a 4 X ,Ui X W As the years go by, the students of Savona become more and more demanding. They want a fresh new experience everyday. But most important, they want to be involved. It takes a very special person to make things happen for our students and we're proud to boast that we have two such people, Mrs. Kruk and Coach McManus. We want to thank you two so much for being your- selves and for making our days at S.C.S, something to remember. What more can we say, you've brightened our day. RETIREMENT M r. Peters The Anovas staff would like to pay tribute to three of our non-teaching staff who retired this year. Mrs. Peters of the cafeteria staff was one whose cheerful smile always made the day seem brighter. Her husband, our head mechanic, Mr. Peters was unsur- passed in his ability to keep our fleet of buses running. We miss them both. Mr. Higbie's sympathetic nature and sense of humor soothed many frazzled nerves on the bus ride home after a lost sports event, and for this quality we shall always remember him with affection. df' ual' iiqfb E f Mrs. Peters Mr, Higbie QQQZYA ,S FACULTY and ADM I N ISTRATIGN C Q O iw, THE BOARD OF EDUCATION: Marvin BeGelI, Warren Thompson, Blaine Mattison, Carl Roy, Dorothy Burr, Howard Nichols, C. Frederick Pierson Mr. Stitt - Vice Principal A big thank you to the staff of the 1977 Anovasl Yours is a singular contribution to your school and community - an ongoing chronicle of the people and events at Savona Central in 1976-77 - a page of history to be enjoyed and appreciated now and for years to come. lt has been said that nature gave man two ends - one to sit on and one to think with, and that his success or failure has been dependent on the one he used most. We at Savona should be glad that you, the producers of the yearbook, have not shown a preference for the former. Congratulations on a job well donel I would like to take this time to extend best wishes and congratulations to the members of our 1977 graduating class. May you enjoy success in your endeavors, what- ever they may be, as you pass another milestone in the experience of Iifel Charles G. Stitt Mr. Pierson - Principal The yearbook- serves as a pictorial record of the sig- nificant activities during the school year. Special recogni- tion is given to each senior class. However, the Anovas is for all of us to cherish as we look back in years to come. A great deal of effort went into the production of the Anovas. Many hours of schooltime were devoted to its preparation, and much money has been expended. We believe it is worth the effort, but only if it is of value to those it serves. Without the continued support of adverti- sers, and complete sales of the book, publication will cease. We do not plan to expend district fund money to maintain it. Obviously the future of the ANOVAS rests in the hands of its readers. Congratulations to the staff for a job well done. You have certainly gone beyond expectations to keep the ANOVAS alive and in good shape for next year's staff. C. Through the efforts of those important few, the yearbook finds itself once again in the black. More important however, are the many hours of time and energy that were expended in making this, your Yearbook, the really great book that it is. To everyone who helped, we give a hardy thanks. Even though the financing of your yearbook looks brighter, there is still an urgent need for student involvement and moral support. Like so many other things, too much is done by too few Without concern the book appears headed for extinction. We don't really want to see this. Do you! We took second place in the East Division of Steuben County, and had an op- portunity to play in sectional com- petition. We lost to a strong Friend- ship team at Canaseraga, 4-1. In terms of the intangibles - cooperation, loyalty, team spirit, and sportsmanship - we came a long way as the season progressed. It was a season for separating the men from the boys, as the saying goes. Many of our games were played in very inclement weather - rain, snow, high winds, mud, and low temperatures. To the seniors and others playing with us for the last time, we extend our appreciation and best wishes. You will be sorely missed. A. VanDerhoff, T. Schermerhorn, J. Higbie, S. Kline, D. Miller, B. These two, along with fine finish- es by the rest of the squad easily won the Junior High county title. Row 1: Mrs. Walker, L. Dennis, D. Howell, B. Stewart, L. Stampp, C. Bills, L. Harrian, M. We made S1400 on our magazine sales, which turned out to be a great success! Our spaghetti supper was quite profitable and delicious, and we'd like to thank everyone for their support. A roller skating party was scheduled for May 16, with two different skating times, one after school for elementary children and one later that evening for the older kids. Plans for the prom went very well. All the decorations were ordered early and the floor plan of the gym was laid out so as to avoid confusion in decorating. The colors that were chosen were red, yellow, blue, and orange with the theme being Strange Magic. The band that gf played at the prom was August , considered one of the best bands around. As this year is swiftly coming to an end, our Junior Class feels that we accomplished much and we are Offiwsr S- Kopercrak - President, M- Lvke - V-President, A looking forward to our Senior Year. Dreams that we will cherish forever while the bright glow of smiles and the mellow warmth of friendship will stay in our hearts as we will remember One of These Nights. MAY ist 1976 -kr 4 Royaltyz King - Joe Marro, Queen - Tami Meyers, Prince - Jody Graham, Princess - Sandy Flick, Attendant Jay Kline, Attendant - Becky Filkins, Attendant - Bob Sweet, Attendant - Cheryl Smith THE CLASS PROPHECY The year is 2002 and together again is the senior class of 1977. The place is the Utt Estate on the peaceful Lamoka Lake. Receiving the guests are Mr. Roy and Mr. Utt. Marching in first is Linwood Snyder, the devoted principal of good ol' S.C.S. We understand that Linwood has the students outfitted in camouflage jeans with little swastikas tatooed on every arm, Hi yo Linwood! Next to arrive in a banged up Vega are Mr. 81 Mrs. Bill Orcutt. Mrs. Orcutt is the former Tami Meyers. Their home for the past 25 years has been in north Alaska where Bill can do his yearly Moose hunting. Hey! what's all the noise out there? Could it be? It is, it's Debbie Caward, Margie Mills, and Janice Littell in Debbie's old jalopy. Look at all the children, it seems that Janice owns a day care center. How nice of her to bring all the children along with her. What's that, Mr. Utt? Mike Hayes strangled your cat? Well you didn't have to make him leave. Oh, l see, he had to go home and milk the cows. Look who's pulling up now! lt's Kris Tyler in her Lincoln Continental, being chauferred by her manager, Joe Marro. lt's great news with Kris, she has become the new Hot Lips replacing Loretta Swift on MASH. Well, hello Diane Moore! Poor Diane hasn't had as much luck with acting as Kris has. She runs her very own gas station. She had a little competiton with Penny Morse, since Penny picked up a great southern accent while she was in Kentucky. Dear old Penny was nominated to be the first woman president in the '96 election, but she could not take the stress, so she gave it up to Cheryl Smith. We're proud to say that Cheryl will be running again this year - Way to go Cheryl! Look! How wonderful, Dan Buckley has brought his cameras with him. Dan now owns his very own chain of Fotomat stores. Maybe he can develop something out of this party. Better yet! Here comes Ricky Goodsell in his van. Rick runs an organic herb shop in down-town Savona. lt's going to be a good party! Now arriving is bachelor Jay Kline. lt is well known that Jay is having an awfully hard time choosing the girl he wants for his wife. Maybe something will come out of this reunion, as Wendy Wansaw seems to be in the same predicament. Wendy has made herself known as a fashion designer in the heart of New Jersey. We've got another Rhoda! Here we have Tina BeBell, wrapped in her favorite furs. lt's comforting to know that one of our classmates has married into money, as her husband owns several oil wells in upper Pennsylvania. And here's Ofelia. She flew all the way from San Salvador to be with her old Savona friends. Sorry Ofelia, Mr. Grimmer couldn't make it today. Well, well, it's Rosemary Pierce with her hair down to her waist. What's the matter Rosemary? Did you give up on those experimental permanents? Oh, dear! Here comes Dave Meyers and it looks like we're going to have to widen the doorway to get him through. Dave has become a hair stylist and it looks like he stuck his finger in an outlet trying to plug in his curling iron. Swift, Dave! Good morning, good morning - here's Teresa Higbie with her ear-to-ear smile. We hear that Teresa is working with hyperactive children helping them control their tempers. Any comments. Teresa? Alright, we won't bug you! And now enters Robin Barkley, the honored V.P. of the American Cancer Society. Good to see you're still around Robin. More noise? Oh, it's just Ray Bulkey parking his car, and Jim Covert is right behind him. Ray and Jim have gotten together and became co-owners of Serenity Farms. Music for everybody! Here comes Arno Utegg and he has brought along his barber shop quartet. What do you mean you wouldn't let Mr. Verity and Mr. Stitt come along? Oh well - we've got another music lover. Here's Sue Taft with her Grace Christian Academy. Don't tell us you're still under construction, Sue. Here comes Jody Graham on his Suzuki. Who's that on the back? Oh it's Sherry Magee. Yes, if we remember correctly - Sherry always likes her men with motorcycles. Jody has earned himself the honor of taking over his father's snowmobile business and Sherry still lives in Savona, she carries the name - Knipper, Kipper - or whatever! Well come on in Mr. Sweet. We've got to pat you on the back. Who would have ever thought that a student from Savona would be playing professional baseball! Yeah Bob! Another sports fan has joined the group. lt's Sandy Flick, and she brought her pom-poms along. You see Sandy was so devoted as a cheerleader in her high school years, that whenever she gets near a large crowd she has to demonstrate that she can still do it! llt must be all of that Elk meat that she eats! And last but not least to arrive is Roger Lyke. Now Roger has it made. He plays on a professional Basketball team and has been playing for the past 20 years. We say he has it made because all he has to do is stand under the basket for four quarters and collect S1 10,000 a game. Now that we're all gathered, Mr. Roy and Mr. Utt are more than proud to toast this class on all its outstanding achievements. They have never seen a better class in all of their years at S.C.S. How about that, Mr. Pierson?! Oh my, it seems that we missed someone, look who is coming through the door-way now, it's Jim Gilbert and he is still on those crutches. lt seems that Jim has been making himself very well known in the emergency room at the good old Bath Hospital. This class prophecy was written by Becky Filkins who has made her millions as a professional writer in both fiction 8t non-fiction. X ll, ff ff!
