This year's ANOVAS is dedicated to one such teacher. Through the years, this man has been a great asset to the entire faculty and has done a wonderful job not only as a teacher, but also as a friend. He has always been very understanding in his years of teaching here and we all owe him great thanks for helping us, our brothers, and our sisters. It is for these reasons that we dedicate the 1971 ANOVAS to you, Mr. Thomas Sangiuliano- 8 mrs. shaut This past year, Mrs. Emma Shaut retired from our administrative staff after many years of hard work. For as long as most of us can remember, M.rs. Shaut sat in the office, eager to help anyone with lunch money problems, other business problems, and perhaps to even entertain a punished student- We were very lucky to have someone like Mrs- Shaut on our clerical staff and al- though she planned on leaving us a -few years ago, she stayed long enough to teach the new staE and to keep everyone on their toes. We would all like to thtank Mrs. Shaut for her smiling face and warm and wonderful personality. We all owe her many thanks and we all wish her the best of everything in her futLu'e years. 9 immimi nm senior advisors ..,....-M Once again the time of departure draws near for another senior class, and advisors again feel the wrench that separation from this particular relationship with young people always brings. The class of '71 is unusual in some ways. First, it has only seven boys. Second, it is a very unassuming, quiet class, and third, it is a class that has grown in maturity and compassion more than many classes which have gone before it. Although there are few boys, individually they have made their presence felt in athletics, in citizenship, and in class ac- tivities. The girls too, are leaving commendable individual achievements on their school records in citizenship and in extracurricular activities . Few classes in om' experience have acquired the art of self-discipline to the degree that the class of '71 has done. We have learned that we can depend on them to do what is expected of them. This is a class that somehow has avoided a certain arrogance that is commonly known as senioritis. They are modest in their claims for superiority over others in matters of privileges or righm. Tragedy has made them more compassionate. The death of jennifer Blank has been felt by each member of this class. Petty differences and antagonisms no longer surface. We sense a certain reaching out to help whenever someone stumbles. Goodbye class of 1971. Best of luck to each of you. You have made our role as advisors very easy. We are proud to have been associated with you. i Eloise Botsford Ralph S. Blank True beauty lies in the heart and in the heart lies contentment of the soul. In this person we see the beauty and upon the stars is written her name. In God she lives forever! This past summer, we of Savona lost a true and beautiful friend. She left us for South America, representing our high school as a foreign exchange student. While there, she became very well-liked by those with whom she came in contact. Active in many school activities, she was always eager to take on new tasks, but she never shirked her duty. jennifer Eileen Blank was quiet and soft-spoken, but she always greeted people with a warm smile. She loved people and the abilities she possessed, she put to work pleasing these people- We will all miss her, but we know that she will live on in our hearts forever. 12 Roxanne Sprague Marla BeGe11 13 Debbie C antineri Teresa. We see new faces, changing attitudes, new pro- blems, new opportunity, and always new challenges. We were never promised that our existence on this earth would be one round of pleasure. Nor have we promised students that the business of securing an education will be all plea- sure. Yet I find many who are disappointed that they are expected to be diligent in their attendance and their scho- lastic effort. Generally, we put our best efforts into those things we consider most important. Perhaps more students should begin to place education at the top priority spot on their list. I have a suggestion to offer the graduates, and those who will remain, for the coming year. Do your own thinking and dare to be different. Don't just go along with the crowd because it seems to be the easy way. Make your own decision, based on sound judgment, and be willing to accept the consequences for your actions. We expect to hear a lot of good things about you. Few people realize the total effort that goes into the final production of the ANOVAS. We are grateful to those who have labored behind the scenes to produce this pictorial history of this school year. lt proves how much can be ac- complished when no one worries about who gets the credit. This past spring, two small boys from our school were taken from us without Wam- w 1 ing. So young and yet so bold were they, that as one of them began to fall, the other ran to save him. But a fruitless effort it was, for they both lost their lives. 87 LU' W ROW 1: J. Ridley, C. Soles, M. Thompson, R. Cooke, R. Calkins, L. Rulli, T. Thompson, T. Carlton ROW 2: Mrs. Drake, T.
