To those of you who are departing, I consider it a great honor and privilege to extend to you hearty congratulations upon your graduationi from Savannah State College. You are completing your work in a time of many social, economical and technological changes which are taking place at an amazing rate. These changes, which we face, place upon the shoulders of educated men and women great responsibilities which cannot be ignored or shirked. The college-trained person is expected to take the lead in helping to lift the masses of people to higher levels of social responsi- bility, political freedom, healthful living, and economic betterment. We hope that the training which you have received during the years at this institution will enable you to make a lasting contribution towards the achievement of these goals. May this Yearbook provide you with a permanent and loving record of your contributions to the great history of Savannah State College, and may it serve always as a means of keeping alive in your hearts and minds the love and loyalty which you have for your Alma Mater. were Dr. Thelma Harmond did not create the education department but, because of her intense dedica- tion and sheer determination, it has evolved into a dynamic force at Savannah Statew . . . like a mother bending over her baby . . . , Dr. Harmond has nursed the education department to its present state of maturity.
