' 5, , Ss A 5 SPUR TS T0 THE SSC FAMILY The 1979 TIQEB has experienced a very trying school yearg everthing seem to have gone wrong--from the desegregation plan to the 1979 edition of the TIGER. I am very sorry to say that due to limited funding we could not produce all of our sections this year, however, we have tried to do the best job that we could under the circumstances. I would, also, like to apologize to our athletic department for not having the funds needed to cover our many fun-filled sporting events, but I am looking forward to a budget next year that will be appropriate to our needs here at SAVANNAH STATE COLLEGE. Please, as you turn through this sports section, do not think of it as a reproduction or duplicate of the 1978 TIGER but rather a continuation of the greatness of last year's athletes. Thanks very much for your cooperation. Sincerely, The 1979 TIGER STAFF T. Ellis played football and basketball for Johnson High and later for Savannah State. He played quarterback for SSC, and his knowledge will really help the quarterbacks. Ellis's enthusiasm rubbed off on his players. The 1977 season is ancient history to him, as he envisions the Tigers embarking upon a new era, Winning more than last year. He did a lot of recruiting in ,77 after getting the job for '78 has signed 15 men. All were outstanding players in high school and Ellis hopes this carries over into college ball. Ellis isn't making any predictions. .L T.. ga. THEN, AND FOREVER is really appropriate for this yearis edition of the TIGER. for this may very well be the last year for Savannah State College as it presently exists. Next year we will lose our Division of Education to Armstrong State College, which is one of the best in the South. if not THE BEST? and our Division of Business Administration will join with Armstrong's Division and become united as a School of Business located on SCC's campus. To the Students. Faculty. and staff of Savannah State College. as you look or have looked through this publication think again about what these pictures and words represent and then start from page one again and obtain the true meaning of our theme: SSC NOW, THEN AND FOREVER-KEEP IT BEAUTIFUL. I hope that on the second go-roundw you will be able to understand what it means for a Black College to survive today. I would like to thank God for letting me be a part of this historic school: special thanks is also given to the many students and faculty members who have expressed their interest in this publication. I would also like to say on a final note, that, all students who will be matriculating as Savannah State College for the 1979-80 school year to please feel free to exercise your rights and privileges as a student and put forth more effort to see to it that changes are made when needed. I sincerely hope that I have been successful in attaining that goal. This book is the culmination of hours of hard-work, incessant determination, and unyielding love. A dedicated staff, who freely gave up their Saturdays, is to be commended for a job well-done. As always, there is one person who does his job and the job of everyone else. ln our case, that special person is our editor, Tommy Williams.
