L .y- EA A TRIBUTE T0 TIIE BLACK MOSES 0F PEACE Dr. Martin Luther King Dayv was highly honored hy the students, faculty, and visitors large attendance in the Memoriam of a Great Black Leader. 46 vt' rwfiy gf!! iz Who was this man that led the way? And let all of glory shine ---- for a brighter coming day. Who was this man that said Let Freedom Ring There's no doubt in my answer, He's Dr. Martin Luther King! Yes, it was he who carried all of the heaviest loads. To put all of his people on that up going road For he wanted his people to live as they should To join hands with all men in Brotherlyhood. But now let's venture back into time and into the olden days. When our forefathers and mothers all worked as slaves. You see. Work was the only thing that our forefathers knew They had to work until they died for they'd never get through. For when you would have finished with plowing ,Iacob's field. There was more cotton to he picked and more corn to be yielded. Just work all day was what your m aster said A TRIBUTE TO DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. and if you did not work, Ynu'd be filled with lead. Yes, that's how things were in the in the olden days, But from yesterday until today We've come a very long way. We've come a long way black people Yet we have so far to go. Since now we must destroy the signs of Old of .lim Crow Well God got fed up with the whit so he sent for Martin Luther and he gave him a tool. This tool was called love, and God knew that one day It would carry Martin's people A very long way! Martin knew that he had several foes and enemies e man's rules But this did not stop him from going to Memphis, Tennessee. When on the hotel balcony Martin stood with pride, And a few seconds later Fatal shots were fired! 47 .K 1 ar, The bullets were lodged deep within his head, And everyone knew that he'd soon he dead. . The people then cried. Lord why, oh why Lord why did you let, our dear Martin die? And God said, I've been thinking. about his troubles and woe And I've decided not to send him away anymore. For I figured he was tired and that he needed a rest We cannot question God, because he knew that was best. Well to this little story there's more to be added on But time does not allow me to elaborate on the many hne qualities of this man! A man of DIGNITY, MORALITY just fighting and striving no matter what was the case. BLACK Brothers and Sisters, I don't think that Martin Luther Can ever be REPLACEDl l !! GEORGIA 31404 OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT The Savannah State College Family and Friends Savannah State College Savannah, Georgia 31404 The l972 issue of the TIGER is the finest that we have produced so far. It is indicative of the kind of students we have enrolled at Savannah State College. We take great pride and delight in saluting them for a job well done. The 1971-72 academic year has been one of greatness for us. We had Miss Lena Horne as a guest of the College in August, l97b Julian Bond and John Lewis in February, l972, and Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm in March, 1972. Each of these great Black lead- ers gave our students, faculty, and administration new inspiration and dedication. We saw the establishment of a student loan fund from which students could borrow without the usual Nred tapen accompanying loans. We saw the seniors participating in interview sessions and in sessions designed to help raise scores on national examinations. We saw a utogethernessn which we believe will sig- nal a new era in the history of our College. We offer sincere and myriad congratulations to the wonderful class of 1972. We pray that God will continue to watch over them. We ask continued cooperation from those who will remain. To the staff of the TIGER, and particularly Editor Janice E. Bryant, we offer our deep gratitude for all of the hours of labor used in delivering to us the finest TIGER to show up yet at Savannah State College. M. Prince Jackg3:?cJi5 President 4 an -A ww r -. Why on The paper is used in this 327-foot Apollo service tower. As honeycomb panel cores. Laminated to aluminum skins . The panels form the enclosing wall of the 120-foot-wide tower base. And the huge hinged gates which open and envelop the rocket dur- ing servicing. Why paper honeycomb? Because it's incred- ibly strong. And incredibly light. The giant gates swing easy. And precious pounds are saved in the 32-story structure whose weight 311 Id they use paper to help launch a moon shot? can flatten the railroad wheels below when they are not in motion. Union Camp honeycomb has hundreds of other uses-in both commercial and residen- tial construction. Everything from floors to walls and to roofs. Even the sky isVn't the limit. The paper for Union Camp's Honeycomb is manufactured at the huge Savannah Complex, the world's largest pulp-to-container plant. We of the 1972 TIGER staff hope that our work will have accomplished some ends toward presenting you with the memories that Went along with the past school year. My thanks goes to the people who stuck by and saw this book out to the end. However, this staff, along with other student publications and student organizations still needs the support that only the family of SSC can give. We hope that you have enjoyed glancing through the pages of this book and will continue to reflect and enjoy this publication for years to come.
