Wright, Assistant Professor of Biology, who gave twelve years of serviceg Philander S. Moore who served for fifty-one years and Richard Bennett who was employed for eleven years. They gave much of their lives and energy to furthering the philosophy to which the college is dedicated - improving our democratic society through serving the needs of man. Thus it is through the veins of such men that the life blood of the college Hows and contributes toward its growth and success. ' Therefore, we humbly and gratefully dedicate the 1960 edition of the Tiger to Messrs.Wright, Moore and Bennett. 4 OFFICERS OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF GEORGIA CHAIRMAN .... MR. This Tiger with its many pictures of persons and events, will be for years to come a stimulus and a source of pleasure. Savannah State College continues to move ahead. It does so in keeping with the finest elements of its years of tradition and service, and with a determination to increase its value to the thousands of young men and women who come to its campus. Time spent at Savannah State College means much more than acquisi- tions of many facts and the learning of new techniques. As the days are relived through the pages of this Annual it is hoped that not places, people and activities alone will be remembered, but that there be a constant renewal of the Savannah State idealism. 6 xref sf 43 N' vig, Q . ,, M .x,wQ.+ ' Mt. xx ' ,si -. 1: . It means a different thing to everyone associated with the college or univer- sity. To the members of the editorial staff and advisers, the year- book brings memories of problems, difficulties, successes, failures, and long hours used in the development of the book. Experiences have been rich and challenging. To the members of the student body and faculty, the yearbook brings together a selected collec- tion from life and learning on the college campus. It affords an opportunity for each individual to relive many phases of college life in a reflective mood. It is stimulating and enjoyable to be a part of a college that is alive and growing. Quality of leadership, cooperative achievement, and learning are indicative of the vigor and strength found in the college. It is my hope that all who may have opportunities to peruse this book will discover evidences of growth. ' 77. -gs, . DR. PAYNE AND FIRST LADY-MATTIE BEVERLY PAYNE 15 ll -A ..-- . This union manifests itself in many forms: in the knowledge imparted by the venerable gray-haired professor to the vulnerable crew-cut colle- gianq in the legends associated with former students, and in the tales of current collegiate caprices and heroicsg and even in the campus landscape where the shadow of a bold modern building is cast upon a proud structure. By this union a heritage is created. a heritage that provides reminiscent consolation for the old, and unshakeable hope for the young. Such is the heritage of Savannah State. And with what have they been replaced? The hundreds of layouts, the hundreds of pictures, the bushel of copy, have all been transformed into what is known as the 1950 TIGER. It is my privilege to express gratitude to those who assisted with the '60 Tiger. Indeed. we are indebted to the Adviser, Mr. A. L. Brentson, for his complete cooperation in helping us to meet those almost im- possible deadlines. His long hours of toil and labor will always be remembered by the staff when we view our annual. Heartfelt thanks must go to the students, faculty, and advertisers for all their participation. Last but not least, I will be forever grate- ful to the entire 1960 Tiger's Staff. May this annual- be long remembered for years to come. Tommie L.
