LOFTIN, Chairman The role of the English Department at Savannah High School has become strikingly important in its attempt to adhere to the theme of the 1969 edition of the Eagle, representing excerpts taken from our school philosophy. In addition to being an interpreter of our cultural heritage, the language arts is a frontline discipline in the field of communication. Society is turning to the unique skills of its subject matter as keys to survival. For only the English teacher can concentrate on the management of language for effective communication. The English Department of Savannah is endeavoring to place major stress on the following language skills: The skills of getting information, the skills of organizing information, and the skills of presenting information.
