DEDICATIO It is with sadness in our hearts that we, the students of Savannah-Clear Creek-But- let schools, dedicate this yearbook to the memory of Mrs. Jeanette Peach. Mrs. Peach, who has been our home economics teacher for many years, passed awayonluly 20, 1959. While teaching here at Savannah, Mrs. Peach helped to organ- ize our F. H. A. Chapter and provided the leadership which has brought so much honor to ourschool. During the past two years, two of our girls have been named State Home- makers, the only ones in the history of the school. Our chapter has been honored by the award of merit again this year. Without Mrs. Peach's patience, understanding, and devotion to her job, these things would not have been possible. Though Mrs. Peach has passed from the scene, her influence will be felt for many years to come by all of the students, teachers, and parents who have had the opportun- ity to work with her. For Adario the cooks were Mrs. Enzor and Mrs. Martin pictured at the right. We think they did a fine job preparing and serving the meals. They also gave us help on banquets and suppers which any class served. Our janitors are Howard and Loretta Shriver. They are the people responsible for keeping our school and playgrounds clean. They are the first ones to school in the morning and the last ones to leave. ANITCR AND BU DRI ER These are the bus drivers who are responsible for getting the stu- dents to and from home with a perfect safety record. They are, from Left to Right: Dave Enzor, Bud Coram, Iohn Motter, John Stuart, B111 Tegtmeier, and Merle Griffith. Not Pictured are Eugene Fast and Warren Smith. Herrnie Kochenderfer works hard to keep the Adario school in tip-top shape. This Page Sponsored by BELL'S BARBER SHOP Savannah, Ohio SENIORS L M ,J .,,,, . K, ,. ,fi , x 1.-'pig N 1 fi? X- 'f' ' '. L I .-A A f' NNUAL TAFF This year the staff has spent much time selling ads, taking pictures, making layout maps, doing write-ups, and typing material for the Anchor. Welker Bishop directed the staff and took much responsibility in producing the yearbook. This year John Steward is the editor. John, with the aid of the assistant editor, Dean Glenn, took charge of the meetings. With the help of Roger Rohrbach, Don Morr, the business manager, took charge of the book- keeping connected with the selling of ads and yearbooks. Photographer Bill Lemmel was busy this year taking and developing pictures. The fine art work which you see on the divider pages and throughout the book was done by Patricia Miller. The staff hopes you will find this year's Anchor the best yer. Pictured above, seated from left, to right are Patricia Miller, Bill Lemmel, Ed Huff, Don Morr. .T ohn Stewart, Dean Glenn, Roger Rohrbach. CRIER STAFF Even though the CRIER wasn't listed as a bestseller this year, the students, parents, friends, and teachers of SHS got a big kick out of reading all about it in our bi-weekly school paper. Susan Workman, Editorg the staff of ever-ready go-getters in the journalism class, the snappy typist of the office practice class, andMrs. Gibson and Mr. Bishop, advisers, combined their talents and lots of hard work to get out the CRIER on schedule. If the old proverb Two heads are better than one is true, just imagine what the approx- imately 40 members of the CRIER staff could do and did. The three-column page, replacing the usual two-column page, was initiated this year in the CRIER. This up-to-date method of news placement added variety, made for easier reading, and made the CRIER look more like a professional newspaper. The members of the staff are pictured above. Seated left to right are sports editor, Dan Hutchinson: art editor, Pat Miller: production editor, Bob McBride: editor, Susan Workman, business manager, Wayne Fairg proofreader, Maxine Eichelbergerg and feature editor, Fred Schlayer. This page sponsored by HEYL-ROBBINS FUNERAL HOME Ashland, Ohio SAVANNAH HIGH MY' Director, Mr. David Vaas nudism When the members ofS. H. S, Band met for their first band prac- tice last fall, they were greeted by a new face -- that of Mr, David Vaas, our new band director at S. H. S, Since that day, the senior band has made much progress, improved their technique, and built up quite a repertoire. One of the biggest thrills of the year for band members and Mr. Vaas was receiving a number 2 Cexcellentj rating in the Ohio District 7 Music Contest at Newark, Ohio. This was the first music festival in which S. H. S. Band members ever participated, and the members learned much about contest requirements for the future from the ex- perience. The band and chorus together presented two concerts this year -- one in the winter and one in thespring. S. H. S. Band played good music ranging all the way from Skip to My Lou to Rachmanioff's famous Prelude in C Sharp Minor. The audiences accepted the concerts well 54 SCHOOL BAN and easily recognized the progress which the band has made since last year. This year, through the combined efforts of theMusic Boosters, Mr. Vaas, the band members themselves, an oboe has been added to the band. Hopes are high that we can buy more instruments to improve the instrumentation of the band. Band members who represented S. H. S. at the all-county musical at Ashland College in April proved themselves capable musicians by winning top positions in all-county band. Our school is very proud of the part S. H. S. Band members played in making the musical a success. On the opposite page seated from left to right are Elaine Helvie, Sara Dinsmore, Janet Lance, Bill Lemmel, Jim Bernhard, Don Morr. H. S. Select Chorus. This gang of ever-ready musicians performed frequently throughout the school year at various acti- vities and events. The chorus took part in the music concerts in the winter and spring, sang at the Adario Farmers' Institute, and presented special music at the World Day of Prayer service at the Adario Metho- dist Church. Nine girls received their Junior Degree, two received their Chapter Degree, and one received her State Degree. We entered an exhibit at the Ashland County Fair, where we received first place. We also entered an exhibit at the Loudonville Fair, where we received fourth place. We participated in a safety program which improved the safety of our homes. This summer the F. H. A. and the F. F. A. are sponsoring an l. F. Y. project which will allow two people from foreign countries to come to visit with two families ln our own commun- ity. We performed an emblem service for the P. T. A. which we later repeated at our Mother- Daughter Banquet. This year we have sponsored a record hop and a bake sale. We also celebrated F.H.A. week April 5-11.
